My backpack is slung over my shoulder, weighing me down. I'm walking home from school, dragging my feet along the sidewalk. Ugh...why do the teachers hand out so much homework? I think to myself. It's really annoying.
I reach my small, white, two-story house. I put my key into the lock and swing the door open, walking inside. "I'm home!" I call. Nobody's there. My family usually isn't home when I'm home because they have to work. My mom works, my dad works, and my big brother Mike is off at his new job. He just graduated college, so he got a job over at Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria. I hope it's going okay for him. Mike is like a role model to me.
I throw my shoes off and set them on the shoe rack by the front door, then run upstairs. I take off my backpack and put it next to my bed, then pull out my binder. It's a heavy, green zipper binder. I put it on my desk and sit down on the office chair. I unzip my binder and pull out my homework for the day. Math equations and formulas fill my mind. I look to the back of my memory, trying to remember how things work in Geometry. It's difficult, though.
I hear a car drive by outside. I look out the window, hoping it might be Mom coming home from work. Instead, I saw a big, white moving van labeled "Joey's Moving" in big, orange letters. The truck pulls into the driveway of the house right next door to us; the one that was just on sale. I've been inside the house before. It's pretty nice. It's a little bit bigger than our house, but not by much. But the inside is fabulous. I wish I lived in that house... my thoughts trailed off as I turned back to my math homework, regaining my focus.
~Time Skip~
I heard a car pull into the driveway of our house. I look out, and find Mom getting out of her car. "Finally," I say. I get out of my bed after texting my friend Lisa, then go downstairs. Mom walks into the house just as I reach the bottom of the stairs. "Hey, Mom!" I say.
"Hey, sweetie! How was school?" She asks me as she carries some groceries into the kitchen.
"Fine. Just normal," I reply. "Hey, need any help with that?" I ask.
"Sure! Just start putting things away." She instructs me. I pull a small, clear bag full of oranges out of one of the grocery bags and put it into the fridge.
"So, how was work?" I ask her as I put a loaf of bread away.
"Fine," She says. "Harold has been getting on my case a lot lately about the files I'm supposed to turn in. It's really kind of annoying, to be honest with you. Sometimes, I wish he would just back off and let me work." Mom says. Harold, her boss, was usually the topic of discussion after work.
"That sucks." I say simply. "Anything else?"
"Well, Amanda said she broke up with her boyfriend recently, but I don't really care. The guy was a huge jerk, anyways. She deserves better." Mom says as she puts away the last of the groceries.
"Well, hopefully she finds someone good for her." I say. "That Darren guy was kind of a jerk, wasn't he?" I had met Darren, Amanda's boyfriend, before. He wasn't one of the most likable guys out there, from what I could tell.
"Oh, he's just a snob. But don't worry about that, it's her business and her business only." Mom concludes. "Oh, hey, didn't you meet the new kids next door?" I look at her, confused.
"You mean the guys that just moved in over there?" I pointed out the window towards the house next to us.
"Yeah, them! I haven't had the chance to talk to them yet. Wanna come over with me? I bet they're nice, but if you don't want to, it's fine." She offers. I nod my head yes and run up to grab a coat. I pick a nice, blue coat off of my coat rack and head back downstairs. I put my shoes on and head out the door with Mom.
I walk up to their front door and knock softly, afraid I might bother them. At first, nobody comes. I almost turn to leave when I hear the door open. A kid with bright red hair looks at me curiously. He's kinda cute... I think to myself. "Hey," I say.
"Hey. Can I...help you?" He asks me.
"Oh. No, I just, uh, came to say that I, uh, I'm the neighbor next door." I say awkwardly.
"And I'm her mother." Mom adds in. It's kind of embarrassing when she says this, but I try my best to ignore it.
"Oh, great! Come on in!" The boy invites us in. We walk in and I take off my shoes. "Our dad should be in the living room." The boy tells Mom. "I can take you to him if you'd like."
"Sure!" Mom says. "I can't wait to meet him!" The boy walks into a nice living room with a fireplace resting along the wall. A tall man with brown hair rests on the couch, watching television.
"Hey, Dad?" The boy says. The man looks over.
"Oh! Well, hello there!" The man gets up and walks over to Mom. "I'm Freddy. Freddy Fazbear." He sticks his hand out. Mom shakes his hand.
"I'm Krystal. And this is my daughter, Kaelyn." I shake his hand shyly. It feels weird whenever I meet people's parents. "We're your new neighbors." Mom says.
"Oh! How wonderful!" Freddy says excitedly. "Would you like a drink?" He asks her.
"Sure!" Mom says. She and Freddy walk into the kitchen, leaving me and Foxy alone. We both stay silent for a while, unsure of what to say to one another. I can tell he's staring at me as I stand there awkwardly.
"My name's Foxy." He says. I look up at him, and he smiles gently. His eyes are a beautiful, exotic yellow color.
"Foxy...that's a nice name." I smile back. "I'm Kaelyn."
Foxy and I stand by the doorway, silent. I awkwardly look down at the ground, unsure of what to say. "So, is it just the two of you? You and Freddy, I mean." I ask.
"Oh, no. I've got a brother and a sister. Hey, Bonnie! Chica! Come down, our neighbors are here!" Foxy calls. I hear footsteps coming from up above. A boy with purple hair (no joke, it's purple) walks down the stairs, followed by a girl with medium-length blonde hair. The boy looks at me curiously while the girl walks towards me.
"Hi!" She smiles. "I'm Chica, Foxy's sister." She sticks out her hand. I shake it in return.
"Kaelyn." I say. I look over at the purple-haired kid, who looks shyly down at the ground. "Who might you be?" I ask him. Hopefully he'd be a little bit less shy, because it was kind of rude.
"Me? Oh. I'm Bonnie." He walks over, a shy expression still on his face. He looked at me with soft, red eyes. I stared back at him. He's kind of cute, too...god, just how attractive is this family?
"I'm Kaelyn." I say back. "So, you guys just moved here?" I ask them.
"Yep!" Chica says back to me. "We're pretty new here. But we're excited to be here, too!" She says enthusiastically.
"That's good." I say. I'm starting to like this family. I think to myself. "So, how old are you guys?" I ask.
"I'm fifteen now. Bonnie and I are the same age, but Chica is seventeen now." Foxy tells me.
"Oh, cool." I say. "I'm fifteen, too." I tell him. I look into his yellow eyes and smile. Why is he just so damn cute?
I see Mom walk out of the kitchen, talking to Freddy. "So, did you kids all get to know each other?" Mom asks us.
"Yeah." I say. Mom looks at her watch.
"Crap, I've got to go. I've got dinner in the oven, and I don't wanna leave it alone for too long." Mom says. She says goodbye to Freddy, and leaves the door. I wave goodbye to everyone, then follow after her.
"They seemed nice, didn't they?" Mom asks me as we walk home.
"Yeah! They're really nice." I reply. I couldn't help but think about Foxy, and Bonnie, too. They're both really cute...I think. I hope they're as nice as they are attractive. I chuckle slightly.
"What's so funny?" Mom asks me.
"Oh, nothing." I sigh.
