Chapter 1

The Best of Friends

The winds blew coldly as two people suddenly appeared, as if by magic. One was tall with platinum blonde hair that went to his near mid back and had grey eyes. The other was a bit shorter, with brown and blond hair. She had blue kind eyes and red painted lips.

Both were wearing black capes, while the female cradled a small bundle in her arms and kept it protected from the cold. Knocking on the door, he taller one, lifted the hood of his cape off of his head, as well as the female next to him.

The door opened and another man was seen. He smiled and let them in and led them to the living room, where a woman sat, also holding a small bundle. I was a baby girl, no older than a week old. She lay asleep peacefully. She had a mop o black hair, with a streak of purple.

The other two came over to the woman and smiled.

"She's so tiny." the woman said.

"Thank you Narcissa. Her name is Annalena. Annalena Abigail Morganna." the other said.

"Of course, Rachel." Narcissa stated, "Lucius, isn't she darling?" Narcissa asked.

"Yes, but not more than my son." he stated with a genuine smile.

Wrapped in Narcissa's arms was a small one year old boy, with platinum blond hair just like his father's and grey/silver eyes. He looked curiously at the smaller baby, and reached out towards her.

Narcissa smiled and spoke.

"It seems that Draco likes her already." Narcissa stated.

"It would seem so. I can tell that they'll be best friends already." Rachel stated.

The baby girl opened her eyes and saw the boy. Locking eyes for a moment, they both smiled toothless smiles. None of them knowing how their friendship would turn out in the end.

TWO YEARS LATER

It was just another spring day. The flowers were in bloom. While the adults talked, the children played. Draco was now three, while Annalena, or Lena, as she preferred, was now two.

They played in the grass playing tag. Unfortunately for Draco, he hadn't seen the uprooted tree root in the ground and tripped, falling into the mud and scraping his knee.

He sat up and held his arm as he began to cry. Lena went over and sat in the mud next to him. Then hugged him tight, as he cried.

Their parents rushed over and soon got them out of the mud and cleaned, as well as fixed Draco's scratched arm. He walked over to Lena and hugged her tight.

"You mah best fwend, Lenah." He sounded out

She smiled at him and hugged back. Their parents watched from the table they were sitting at, smiling at the exchange of friendship.

THREE YEARS LATER.

"Draco, will we always be friends?"

"Of course. We're best friends forever." he replied.

She smiled and hugged him.

"Good. Because you're my bestest friend in the world." Lena stated, hugging Draco tightly.

He hugged her back and they began to play. Lena had been sent to stay with the Malfoys for three weeks while her parents were at a midwife's home for Lena's mother. She was due any day now. Narcissa was with them as well. She had left the second week, as Rachel had been having pre-labor contractions.

"I still can't believe I'll have a baby sister!" Lena stated.

"How do you know it will be a girl?" Draco asked, as they walked around the mansion.

"I just know it." Lena said.

"What color do you think her streak will be? Purple like yours?" Draco asked.

"No, it's always different. But I feel like it will be hot pink." she stated.

They wandered around, played with the house elves, and had their snacks while using some of the basic spells they had been learning.

Dobby had always been Lena's favorite house elf. He was so nice. Of course he had to treat her with respect, but he was always extra nice with her, as she was always nice with him.

Draco suddenly had an idea.

"Hey, you want to see something cool?" he asked eagerly.

"Yeah!" Lena stated excitedly.

He took her hand and led her down one of the many halls, and to his father's office. His father, however was nowhere to be seen. He was at an important meeting with the Ministry of Magic, leaving the two young children in the care of the house elves.

"Are we allowed in here, Draco?" Lena asked.

"Sure." he replied.

"But wouldn't your father be mad that we're in here?" she asked.

"I'm not going to say anything, are you?" he asked.

She shook her head no, and followed him to the tall book shelf. He stepped onto the stool, which lifted and lifted until he found the book he was looking for. Pulling the book from its spot, he stepped down. They set the book down on the desk and looked through it.

"Wow, there's so many spells here." Lena stated.

"Yeah." Draco replied.

Just then, Lena pointed to a specific spell.

"Look!"

"The Bond Beyond Time spell." Draco stated.

"What does it do?" Lena asked.

"When two or more people use it, they form a bond between them that is very strong. But you have to have a special connection for it to work to its full extent." Draco explained.

"Let's try it." Lena stated.

Draco looked at her as if she had grown another head.

"What?" she asked.

"Are you crazy!? What if it back fires on us!?" he asked.

"We're best friends, we can do it. And this will only make our friendship stronger. Come on Draco!" she stated.

He let out a sigh and pulled out his wand as she did her own.

"You better be right." he stated.

"I know I am. Come on Draco, trust me." she said with a smile.

"Alright." he said.

"Okay, it says we need to take each other's hand and cross our wands." she stated.

They did so and began the spell.

"Okay. Here we go." Lena stated reading the page.

"I, Annalena Abigail Morgana, bond myself with my best friend, Draco Lucius Malfoy. I vow to be his best friend to the end, no matter what happens. I will never give up on him, and will be there to help him if and when he needs. He will always be able to turn to me when he can turn to no one else." she stated.

"I, Draco Lucius Malfoy, bond myself with my best friend, Annalena Abigail Morgana. I vow to be her best friend to the end, no matter what happens. I will always be there when she needs me and will always be the one she can turn to when she feels she can turn to no one else." he stated.

Just then there was a bright light that soon faded within their hands and through their wands.

"We did it! We bonded. Now we're the greatest of best friends!" Lena stated, hugging Draco.

After putting the book back where it was, they ran out of the room and began to play in the foyer once more. Truly a friendship that would last forever and would grow stronger.

FOUR YEARS LATER.

A nine year old Lena sat crying on her bed. She, her mother, father and new baby sister, Sonia, were moving far away. Which meant she wouldn't get to see Draco any more except for when they came to visit. Needless to say, Draco wasn't happy about it either. This was his best, and she was moving away.

Lena leaned on Draco's shoulder as tears spilled down her cheeks, said cheeks were rosy red from her crying. Hugging his best friend close, Draco felt a lump in his throat, but refused to cry. As he had been taught, Malfoys didn't cry.

"I don't want to leave Draco! You're my best friend!" Lena cried.

"I don't want for you to go either Lena, but we don't have a choice." Draco stated.

He had her look up at him and spoke.

"But look, we'll still be best friends. I promise I'll owl you every day."

"(snif, snif)…You promise?" she asked

"Yes." he nodded.

"And you promise not to get another best friend?" she asked.

"I promise, Lena…here." he said, pulling out a purple and silver small box.

"I was waiting until your birthday, but I think I should give it to you now, seeing as how ou're leaving tomorrow." he said, handing it to her.

She opened the box and gasped as she saw a sterling silver bracelet with five charms. In the center there was a treble clef, to the right was a star, then a heart, next a rose and finally a key on the last one, with smaller purple and silver beads in between them.

"It's so pretty! Thank you Draco!" she exclaimed, hugging him once again.

"Remember, I'll always be there, even when we're apart, okay?" he asked.

"Okay…here." she said, taking out another small box.

Handing it to Draco and watching as he opened it, he saw that it was a sterling silver snake bracelet, it was two snakes connected with emerald green eyes. They slithered past each other as they stayed in place.

"It's a going away present from me. Something to remember me by. Do you like it?" she asked.

He nodded and thanked her, knowing that no matter how far away they would be from each other, that they would still be the best of friends…

The day they dreaded was finally there. With a final goodbye hug, Lena and her family boarded the train. Looking out the train window, they waved goodbye to their friends. They rain began to move and fresh tears cascaded down Lena's face as she waved goodbye to Draco through sobs.

All too soon the train was out of sight. At the same time, both looked down at their wrists and at their bracelets. The sinking feeling they both had felt, lessened a bit and they smiled.

At that moment, they knew that they would be okay…
