Fate

A/N: I just felt like writing a one-shot about it. (: Originally it was a snip of another Eragon fic I'm currently working on but I changed my mind, lol. I hope you like! ;D Reviews will be appreciated:P

Summary: Fate has chosen Eragon to become its savior. But the young rider was given no chance for a choice. Did he make the right one? One-Shot

Disclaimer: I do not own anything from Eragon and all of it belongs to Christopher Paolini.

Flames will be mercilessly cut into little pieces of scissored paper! (:

You look troubled, little one.

Eragon was pulled away from his thoughts and reality hit him hard. He turned to look at Sapphira, his dark blue dragon. She watched him intently. Clearly she could feel some of same things he felt, and he knew that she was worried about him. What was he feeling? Well, he wasn't sure of it himself.

Is this my destiny, Sapphira, to be a dragon rider... to serve as a hero for the people of Algaesia?

Sapphira looked surprised to hear such words from the boy. After a long pause, she answered.

A destiny is chosen by the very person who will walk its path. Was this not what you wanted?

Eragon looked at Sapphira uncertainly. I'm not certain... Suddenly I feel like I've made the wrong choice. So many have died because of me, and there probably will be more just for the fact that I exist.

Sapphira raised an eyebrow. Would you have chosen to be beside Galbatorix, the very man who had sent the Ra'zac after you and killed your uncle, if you had the choice?

No... I will be ashamed with myself if I did.

Then you were not destined to be on their side. Doubt will not help you get through this crisis, and neither will it save lives. The freedom of Algaesia is in our hands and if we fall to darkness, then we fail the people and most importantly, ourselves. Don't let those emotions deceive you from walking towards the wrong path, Eragon. It will do us no good.

Eragon didn't answer for a few seconds, but he nodded finally. You are right, Sapphira. Thank you... for always guiding me back. Without you, I may have lost my way and strength. I only sound courageous because I am a Rider.

Sapphira shook her head in disagreement. You had just took a flight to an unknown territory of your own mind. That alone is called bravery. No coward could have done what you have done, and accomplished to overcome it their fears.

Eragon smiled. This time, he was not afraid of the choice he had made. No doubt clouded his mind, and it will never will.
