He's Back

Sakura leaned over the field of strawberries. Earlier that day she had agreed to take a break for a week and just work in the fields.

Her clothes were splattered with sticky strawberry juice, but she didn't care. She was too depressed with all the horrible things going on in her life. The fact Sasuke was still missing and he almost killed her was one. Naruto had been sent on a mission with Sai, Yamato, and Kakashi, leaving her alone. Ino and everyone else was either on a mission or busy.

A shadow fell over Sakura, she looked up at the person still crouched in the bushes.

The spiky silhouette shouted, "Sakura!" He was excited to see her, overflowing with happiness.

"Naruto, I'm glad you're back from the mission, but I just want to alone right now." Sakura shielded her eyes from the afternoon sun.

"Not for long!" He stepped aside to reveal a figure who had been standing behind him.

She saw a man, his clothes slightly speckled with blood, and tall. He stared at her with deep onyx eyes. Realization kicked in, "Naruto, you…?" She could barely speak.

"Yep!" He rubbed his nose with his finger like he did when he was proud of himself.

She was speechless, all she could do was stare at the man she'd known most of her life. Before she knew what she was doing she stood up and flung her arms around Naruto's neck, "I can't believe it! You actually…!" She cried happy tears into Naruto's shoulder. He hugged her back.

"So what am I? Invisible?" the man said sarcastically.

Sakura let go of Naruto and walked over to the man, "It's really you…?" She reached a shaky hand toward his face, but stopped. She feared that if she touched him, he would be gone again.

Sensing her doubt, he gently grabbed her frozen hand and brought it up to his face, "I'm real," he said simply.

She was bursting with joy. She wanted to hold him, but she knew he wasn't the affectionate type. "Could I…?" She hesitated, not sure if she would offend him.

"Come here," he said softly.

Sakura's eyes filled with tears as she pulled Sasuke close, weeping joyfully into his chest.

She felt strong arms wrap around her waist, surprising her a bit, "I'm not leaving this time Sakura. You can count on that, I promise."

Sakura sobbed harder, tears of happiness flowing down her face. She was crying so hard that she didn't notice when Sasuke let go of her with one arm to give Naruto a thumbs-up.

He reciprocated the thumbs-up, approving of the new couple.

Oh Cheezits! I've never missed anyone before (especially my editor, whom I never appreciate enough) and now I'm practically complaining all day about my twin, Ghost Whisperer If Not Human. I curse the man who invented e-mail. Why? I DON'T FLIPPIN' KNOW! I just need to blame someone who invented long distance crap.
