Caroline Forbes is different than the other people in mystic falls. Those who don't know what he is welcome him rather nicely and accept him easily. Those who know who he is distrust him and sometimes openly confront him. She on the other hand seems to fidget when he's near, smiling uneasily and then excuses herself as fast as possible.
It takes him a while to find out why. Had he looked close enough he would have noticed the now healed marks on her neck and shoulder. The older Salvatore brother has used her in more than one way before cruelly discarding her and while it appears she has no recollection of the things that happened, she can sense he is a predator unconsciously.
Elijah knows he should just leave it alone, but the way she runs from him only draws him in. It isn't long before he decides he wants her.
He tries the usual way at first, finding her during the many social gatherings in Mystic Falls, talking, smiling, but she always manages to disappear. He doesn't follow her because he knows the difference between courting and stalking.
After that he tries sending her gifts, but even with jewellery and sweets he can't make her associate him with something other than fear.
In the end he gives Caroline the truth. He tells her what he is, what Damon is and what he did to her. He compels her before he gives her back her memories though, to give her some calmness to deal with all the things rushing back into her mind. Even so, she is stronger than he expected her to be. Her first reaction is shock, than anger, but considering the circumstances she accepts all those things very fast.
She tries to keep her distance from Elijah, but seems to trust him now in spite of herself. It helps that he is a patient man.
When he finally has her writhing in pleasure beneath him, begging for his touch, he kisses her shoulder before gently biting down on it. He can feel her finger nails digging into his skin. A low moan escapes her mouth when he does the same to her neck.
His own bite marks now cover Damons', making them disappear in a way. Making her his.
