Once Upon a Dream
xXx
Piers had dealt with a bout of insomnia ever since he put together the clues. He should have realized it with all of the weird things that happened around Harry Potter. But despite coming from a magical family, he didn't see magic that often because his parents were careful to not do it around him, afraid of upsetting him.
Still, he should have seen the clues, but he ignored it and blindly followed Dudley's lead when it came to Harry Hunting. He could have still followed Dudley's lead, but this time it wouldn't be quite so blind. He could take out his anger that this boy had magic when Piers didn't. What made Potter worthy of magic, but not Piers?
He did research. Potter had a Muggle-born parent, and he still received magic while Piers had two Half-blood parents. By logic, there was more magic in Piers family, so why was he passed over when it came to the gift of magic.
He shook his head at the thoughts running through his head. It wasn't Potter's fault, but he couldn't help his bitterness.
He sighed. He did more research, found out Potter was a hero in the Wizarding world, and the orphan hadn't even known he was a wizard until he was eleven.
Harry Potter was a hero, and he suffered for years. And he realized that was why the Dursleys hated Potter so much, why Dudley was allowed to do heinous things. Piers couldn't help but wonder what the Dursleys would do if they discovered Piers' family's secret.
Piers swallowed as he sat in Dudley's bedroom on Privet Drive. All of these thoughts were the reason he was there.
Dudley was playing a video game, and Piers spoke up when he couldn't take the silence anymore. "You've been very good to me… well, except for that time you accidentally fed me spiders."
Dudley didn't look at him. "What are you going on about?"
Piers took a deep breath. "I can't be friends with you."
Dudley dropped his video game controller, finally giving Piers his attention. "Why?"
Piers knew better than to say the truth. Dudley might turn his hatred onto Piers, especially since Potter was away for the majority of the year, and although Piers was bigger and stronger than Potter, Piers didn't feel like fighting with his fists any longer, so the lie easily fell from his lips. "My parents think you're a bad influence, and they forbade me to spend time with you. They're even taking me out of Smeltings Academy." That last part was true, but what he didn't say was he asked his parents to put him in a different school."Sorry, Dud, but there's no convincing them otherwise."
And just like that, ten years of friendship was over.
Piers stood up and left the bedroom. He quietly walked down the stairs and exited the house. It felt like a weight had been lifted off of his shoulders.
Once upon a dream, he wished he could live in the magical world, go to Hogwarts like his parents had. That was just a dream, though. It wouldn't ever happen, but he could be a better person. He could make his parents proud despite his squib status. And that's a dream he could make a reality.
