I do not own Gossip Girl or any of the characters.
It was the middle of the night. Everything seemed so serene and quiet. The only noise was the click of his keyboard as he typed away furiously. Every so often he would look over at her sleeping form on his bed and smile. At that moment however, he was so engrossed in what he was doing that he didn't even notice that the person has stirred themselves awake and was now watching him intently.
"Dan…"
"Hmmm"
"Dan" she said a bit louder.
"Blair, I'm sorry did I wake you? I was just working and I was on a roll."
"Can you come here for a bit, lie down with me?"
"Of course."
He closed his laptop and moved over to the bed. The moon was shining outside and the light coming in from the window illuminated her face and made her look angelic. He got in the bed and faced her as she turned over on her side to look at him. She didn't say anything for quite some time, but continued watching him intently, as if trying to find an answer to some unknown question in his eyes. He stayed silent for some time and gazed into her eyes, but he couldn't take it anymore, so he decided to burst the bubble they were in.
"Blair, what's going on? Do you want to talk about something?"
"Yeah" she breathed and he felt nervousness stir in his stomach at the sound of her voice.
She looked at him again. Then she closed her eyes and inhaled deeply. A small smile appeared at the corner of her lips and she opened her eyes. She seemed unsure, almost shy in her movements as she reached for his hand.
"Dan, I have something for you." she said, her voice barely a whisper.
"Oh." he didn't know what he was expecting, but this definitely wasn't it. "What is it?" he replied in the same tone.
She took the hand that she was holding and tentatively placed in on her belly. Her hand over his. He looked first at their hands and then back at her face, confused, trying to understand what she meant. As he looked into her eyes he felt as if she was silently begging him to understand. And he did. His eyes widened as he comprehended just what she was trying to tell him. His eyes fell to her belly again and then back up as his heart began to swell.
"Really?" he asked in amazement, "really Blair?"
"Yes" she said as she searched his face for some sort of reaction, some sort of indication that he was as thrilled as she was. She knew he wouldn't be mad, this was Dan after all, she wasn't scared of that. She just wanted to know that he would be happy and this time would be different. When she found out about her first pregnancy she had been so anxious, freaking out about paternity, how unexpected it all had been. But this time it was a happy surprise, she wanted this child more than she could have imagined. It was hers, and Dan's, theirs. She already loved it with all her heart. She just wanted to know that he would too.
"A baby, a little you" Dan cooed as his whole face lit up with excitement.
Blair felt so relieved, she could feel her eyes well up. "Actually, I would like if it had some of you in it too" she said as she beamed from all the happiness she was feeling.
H e pulled her close, their hands still on her belly, where a baby, their baby, was growing. He signed in contentment as he felt her body mold into his, his writing completely forgotten.
