"Robbie!"
Matilda's older brother failed to appear.
"Robbie!" she whinged, her voice literally had puppy dog eyes. But no effect.
However, a slightly less wanted face appeared: that of her elder sister who seemed to have no patience with her anymore, not that before boarding school 'improved' Matilda, she had much.
"Tilly, he's not here. Can you shut up?"
"Where is he then, Kit?"
"Well, think. If he's not here and not working at the Kiosk, where would he be?"
Matilda's whining went up a notch.
"He's always hanging round with that freaky girl."
"That freaky girl happens to be my best friend in the Bay."
"A better friend than Noah?" Matilda was now in full bitch mode. Well, it was her stupid family's fault, she thought.
Kit's body then came into full view down the stairs.
"What do you mean?" As Matilda took a breath and crossed her arms, Kit regretted asking since obviously a long rant was just about to issue from her little sister's mouth.
"The only reason Scott stayed in the Bay was 'cos he met Dani and then Mum went and moved in with Rhys. Another family member in the Bay. You're in love with this Noah person, who coincidently lives here. And now Robbie's off chasing Tash or whatever her name is, who also lives in the Bay. Since Henry and I obviously have no romantic attachments in this bloody place, why do we have to stay?"
"Tilly, shut up."
Matilda pouted and sat down on the bottom step in a huff.
"Even Robbie's gone over to the dark side. He hardly notices me anymore."
Kit sighed and started to go back up the stairs. Matilda called protesting after:
"Well, it's hard to compete with someone who saved his life, isn't it?"
