The Real Reason Bella Moved

"Hi Mum. This is my new friend Sergeant Frank Clark." Bella sauntered into the house and sat down.

"Nice to meet you Sergeant," Renée narrowed her eyes. "May I ask how you two met?"

Sergeant Clark and Bella glanced at each other for a moment before she looked away.

"Well if you must know, things may have gotten a little out of hand last night, mum."

Renée sucked in a breath.

"How out of hand are we talking?"

"Well, I sung a few songs on the karaoke machine."

"S & M by Rihanna." the policeman helpfully added

"And everyone really enjoyed that." She smiled sweetly.

"What bar were you at?" Renée didn't miss a beat.

"The one up at the north of the city center."

"The local gang's watering hole?" Renée wanted to be sure.

"Umm… yes?"

"Go on," said Renée with a mild frown.

"Well, I had a few drinks by the time I started singing, and after a few songs I went outside for some fresh air. I saw that they had a garden tap outside in the courtyard."

"By courtyard she means a concrete pad that people drink outside at, on old broken picnic tables."

Bella glared at the policeman, she thought he was enjoying this far too much.

"Anyway I saw the tap and thought, as it was a hot night and it is the middle of summer..."

"She started a wet t-shirt contest." He interrupted again.

She stopped talking and turned towards the policeman with an icy glare and he stepped back with a smile, to let her tell the rest of the story.

"I won the wet t-shirt contest." she continued.

Bella figured if she was going to get in trouble, she was going to do it in style. "But someone had called the police, when it was all good clean fun."

"That was the bar owner. The rest of the gang had been called in, to break up a girl fight and then they stayed to watch the t-shirt contest."

"Well, that woman was asking for it any way."

"She was the gang's headman's woman."

A smile spread on the woman face as she turned back to the officer.

"Was, being the operative word there." Bella was having second thoughts about that though, the policeman was so cute and really he was looking out for her wellbeing.

"Oh no," Renée hung her head in her hands. "Tell me he didn't dump her for you?"

"Anyway someone called the police, and the guys really didn't like that."

Bella paused for a moment, and Officer Frank felt obliged to step in again.

"Someone inside the bar said that the gang boys should make Molotov cocktails using the empty beer and wine bottles with the petrol, that they could cyphen out of the bar owner car."

"It was the only car parked behind the bar, and it had a full tank." She pointed out reasonably.

"Two police cars were abandoned at the scene as we were forced to retreat until the riot police reinforcements arrived." He continued

"A complete over reaction to some harmless fun I think." she said as she stood and made her way over to the kitchen to make a cup of tea.

"It took five hours to subdue the gang, and get all the people out of the pub."

"Really," Renée looked at her daughter with an unreadable expression on her face.

"We were out of the good wine and I was beginning to get a headache anyway."

"I saw you dancing on the table when we entered the building." He looked at Mrs. Renée. "If we could charge her with anything we would, but the gang seems to have taken a shine to her and refuse to let her be implicated in starting the riot."

"Honey," Renée said standing up. "You're grounded."

"That's fine Mum, fair enough." Bella paused for a moment. "Is it ok if I invite a few friends over?"

"No. I'm going to talk to your father about living with him."

"Whatever, Mom."
