My name is…
Disclaimer: I don't own Mighty Max or any of the characters.
They never asked me my name. For all the times I've talked with Virgil over this or that artifact, or asked Norman about a type of weapon from some era, they've never asked my name. Strange how that's what bothers me, but a name is like an identity. Without it, we flounder. It's almost like we don't exist.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised though. My name, to them, isn't important. To them, I'm The Mother of the Mighty One, Max's mom, and that's all that matters. Max is the important one, the one that requires all of their attention and protection.
I wouldn't have it any other way.
Being the mother of the Mighty One is a full time fear-fest. He goes off to who-knows-where, fighting who-knows-what, putting himself in danger to save the world from unknown, untold dangers on a weekly basis, with only a magic cap to get him out of trouble.
And his friends. A Lemurian and a Viking: A fowl who gets more respect out of Max than all of his teachers combined, and a warrior whose skills have kept my son safe from countless dangers. Between the two of them, Max seems to have the father figure he always said he never missed. I owe them both. I owe them Max's life, as well as my own, along with my respect, my thanks. I'm glad he has them.
Still, I want them to know my name, to know I'm more than Max's mom, although that will always be my first, and favorite title. I'm a mother first and foremost, but I'm also an archeologist, an adventuress, and a friend.
I want them to know I'm their friend. I want them to know my name should they need me, for advice, for help, for what-have-you.
My son needs his friends. I think I need them too. I need to be connected to that part of Max's life, and not completely left on the sidelines. I want to know I can help, that they can ask for my help, and ask me by name.
They never asked me my name, but I never gave it to them either.
Next time I see them, I'll tell them they don't have to call me Mother of the Mighty One. They can call me…Tress.
End.
Author's note: I got the name from the actress who voiced Max's mom.
