Of Tink and Pan
You know, they say he suffers from a Peter Pan complex. I suppose if that's true, then I must suffer from a Tinker Bell complex, not that I'm even sure there is such a thing. We certainly didn't cover it in any of my Psych classes.
I mean, just think about it. Tinker Bell was the one who was always there for him. Followed faithfully. Found his lost shadow. Helped him to fly. Only, he never really saw her. She was just there. Until Wendy came along, that is. Then he banished her. First forever, and then for only a week.
So what happened? Her jealousy led her to do something stupid. Why? Because she wanted someone to see her. Pay attention to her. Make her feel important. And she ends up betraying him.
Sounds familiar, right?
Any way, she doesn't betray him.
Not really.
She realizes her mistakes and warns him.
Saves him almost at the cost of her being.
That's when he sees her.
For one moment he puts her above all else, but only because he's afraid of losing her. And the ironic part is that he can't even save her. It's up to others to save her by showing that they believe in her.
Which begs the question of whether or not he actually believed in her himself, but I digress.
So, he goes off and saves Wendy and the boys, making her nothing more then. . . well, his assistant, once more.
And yet, she's the one who stays with him.
Who doesn't want to move on.
Doesn't care if he grows up or not.
But he still keeps her only in a place of companion, forgetting she's there.
And he'll go to others.
Be shocked that they haven't waited for him.
That they've grown up and moved on.
But she'll always be there.
Hovering near.
Just waiting for him to notice her one more time.
To notice she's there.
To notice her loyalty and devotion.
I wonder sometimes, if she ever thought of just flying away and forgetting him. But I suppose, since she was his fairy and all, she wouldn't.
She couldn't.
At least for as long as he refused to grow up.
For as long as he needs a fairy.
As long as he needs her.
Just as long as he needs me, but that's more Oliver then Tinker Bell, isn't it?
