*PoV Remus*
I was sat, looking out the window of my apartment that I shared with Sirius. James was sleeping on the couch to my left, Sirius in our bed in the room to the left. I had my blanket wrapped around me, falling off my right shoulder. I looked down at James as he turned in his sleep, somehow not falling off the sofa. I gave a very small smile. My bony knees were drawn up to my chest, my arms folded on top of them, holding the corners of my duvet. I sighed and looked outside again.
It was a cold night, with snow falling from the sky. I could see the stars and the moon, yet it was snowing. They looked like little stars, falling down from their place in the sky. It was sort of sad. In the cold room, I could see my breath, crystallizing right in front of me. On a tree branch, was a magpie. It should have flown south for the winter already, but it seemed very lost.
I began to sing very softly to myself. "One for sorrow,
Two for joy,
Three for a girl,
Four for a boy.
Five for silver,
Six for gold,
Seven for a secret, never to be told.
Eight for wishes,
Nine for a kiss,
Ten for a bird,
You never must miss."
I sighed. "Magpie… What a foolish name for a bird."
"Moons?" James was sat up on the sofa, looking at me through squinted eyes. "You alright? What ya' doing?"
"I couldn't sleep," I said softly. "Just go back to sleep, James. Big day tomorrow."
James nodded, going back to sleep. He needed rest if he were to be ready for his wedding tomorrow. Wedding always made me sad, for some reason. It's like your friends or family are moving on and leaving you behind. It is sad, when you think about it. Very sad.
I sighed again and leaned against my legs again. My friends were getting married, and I was a guest, so why shouldn't I be getting rest? Because whenever I go to sleep, I'm afraid that Sirius will realize that he was with a monster and leave. I wanted to make sure that he'd be there in the morning, so I would stay up and just look at him, memorizing the soft features. I haven't slept in days. I just drink a lot of coffee.
It was snowing heavier now, but there was still not a cloud in sight.
I sighed again, and watched the snow fall like stars from the sky.
