"Bella!", my best friend Edward called out. We had been friends ever since we were 3. Now we were 17, and we were still friends. Even though he is insanely popular and I am a social outcast. "What's up?", I asked him when he caught up. "Well…um…I don't really know how to, um, say this…", Edward mumbled. "Just spit it out…Eddie", I told him, using the nickname he hates. "Uh, well…wouldyouliketogotopromwithme", he mumbled super fast and super quiet. "Uh, Edward, I can't hear you, speak up!", I half yelled. Edward was only like this when he was nervous. He ran his hands through his hair a couple of times. Yup, definitely nervous. "Would you like to go to prom with me?", he said, looking me in the eye. I lost my train of thought. That's what happens when I look into those gorgeous emerald green eyes of his. "Uh…what?", I asked stupidly. "Would. You. Like. To Go. To. Prom. With. Me?", he asked, annoyed yet nervous now. "M-M-Me? But…why?", I asked. Surely he had better people to go to prom with. Jessica, Lauren…Tanya. Even thought they were all evil, they sure as heck were more popular and pretty than me. "Because I like you", he said. I couldn't find any trace of joking in his eyes, so he must mean it. "Then…ok", I answered. "I'll go to prom with you", I told him, trying to contain my excitement. "Really?", he asked as if he didn't believe me. I nodded. "That's great!", he said, sounding more excited than me. Just then, Edward's hyper-active sister, Alice, came running to me. "BELLA! JASPER HALE JUST ASKED ME TO THE PROM! WE NEED TO GO DRESS SHOPPING!", she yelled. Edward covered his ears and waved me a good-bye. "Ok, ok Alice. Just calm down. Take deep breaths", I told her. She did as I asked. I had a lot of practice in calming Alice Cullen.
A week later, at prom
Edward pulled up in front of my house with his silver Volvo. Charlie was, well, not ecstatic about prom, but he wasn't mad either. He just didn't want his little girl to grow up. Edward opened the door of the car for me and I stepped in with a, "Thank you".
When we arrived at the school, I was shocked. It didn't look like boring old Forks High anymore. It kinda looked magic! Just like this night.
