life's wheels won't stop turning if you decide to jump off.
well i can see it in your eyes like i can taste it on your lips
and they both tell me that we're better then this, aren't we?
modest muse - little motel
"What the fuck, dude. You're bailing out on me?"
"Bailing out? You think I'm bailing out on you?"
"That's why I said it."
He wanted to turn around – right then and there and punch Stan because figuratively, that's what Stan had been doing to him all along.
"I'm not the one who's been bailing out on you Stan." He was afraid. Afraid that if he did turn around - Stan would see. The hurt that was probably splayed for the world's entertainment was right there in his eyes and Stan would know.
"And what the hell is that supposed to mean?"
He would know that Kyle was being weak but if you were losing your best friend, you'd feel pretty weak too.
"I can't believe you- I don't even want to look at you anymore."
"Jesus Christ, stop being overdramatic."
"overdramatic?"
Kyle had forgotten not to turn around.
"Fuck you! I'm not being overdramatic. You're the one who's all hung up on people actually giving too shits, like it matters!"
"Because it does, Ky-"
"Since when? Since you're going to be this town's hero? Yeah okay. How about you call me tomorrow and let me know how that works out for you, huh? When you're just big and famous let me know. Oh wait, you won't because best friends are just so easy to sell short. In fact what does it matter right?"
Like word vomit, it was all coming out and Kyle couldn't stop it.
"What are you even-"
"We're not kids anymore."
And Kyle could see Stan's expression go from apprehensive to defensive.
"What are you saying?"
But Kyle didn't really have to say it out loud for Stan to get it because Kyle could see it in his eyes as he was sure the words were crystal clear in his own.
'We're not super best friends anymore'
