I do not own Percy Jackson and the Olympians. If I did, I would've made Leneus go BOOM.
He had known. For how long, she wasn't sure.
But she had seen it in his eyes. Right before he had left for the Princess Andromeda quest, he gave her an unmistakable look that confirmed the unspoken. He knew her secret.
Why he never ratted her out or confronted her about it, she'd never know. But as she watched him wordlessly depart, her heart in her throat, a pit of regret settled in her stomach. Because, somehow, she had the eerie feeling that she'd never see him again.
Why hadn't he done something? He should've! Of all people, she deserved it. She was no better than Luke, whom himself had tricked her into helping him, making her believe she was helping everyone. It was all a lie. And she knew it.
"This is all my fault.."
"I've never been any good at camp. Not like you or Percy. If I was a better fighter.."
It was all her fault.
But even now, at the end, she knew love conquered all.
That's why she put everything she had into making the Ares cabin believe she was their leader. Why she faced the giant drakon that made her want to run away screaming. She needed to make it up to them, somehow.
Guilt continued to gnaw at her insides as she fed herself lies. But now that was over.
Because, no matter what it took, she would redeem herself and prove herself worthy to be a demigod. Her deceit would come to an end now.
She plunged into the battle, vowing she would make it up to him. Charlie's death would not be in vain.
For Charles Beckendorf. For Clarisse. For Camp Half-Blood. For everyone she had betrayed. She would do this for them.
Silena had the same eerie feeling that she wouldn't make it out of this battle, either. She knew she would soon be reunited with her beloved Beckendorf. Percy said he carried my picture into battle... I carry his memory into mine. She clutched the silver bracelet with the scythe charm in her hand, making an imprint in her palm.
The last thought that registered through her mind were only two, simple words that carried all the power in the world.
I'm sorry.
