Barney gasped and stared back at her, his eyes filing with water slowly, and Robin had to restrain herself not to reach out to him; she didn't wanna let him smell the other man's cologne on her body, though, and stood still. Fortunately, he managed to keep himself together. And smiled. A sad and broken smile, the kind that, many years ago, she'd have thought she would never see on his face.
Barney said, his voice somewhere between irony and deep sorrow, "It's kinda funny. Because everybody always thought I was going to be the one to break your heart."
