The Brightest Flower
A Season 2 Bloom and Flora Fluff
It was English class. Friday. All Flora wanted was to get out.
She gazed around the room, looking for something to distract her. There was nothing going on outside, she could see that from her minimal view of the windows. The classroom looked out onto an open field, with only some grass. Flora was actually petitioning the school board to allow the students to plant a garden there instead. Faragonda was completely in support of the plan, but the problem was that it was not her decision. The board director, Harding, was infamously grumpy and hard to convince of anything. He had been born on Domino, and was out away on business when the planet fell. Ever since then, nothing could please him except for remnants of his homeland.
If only there was a way to bring some of his home to Alfea.
When she caught a glimpse of Bloom and her flame-red hair, she had an idea.
As soon as class was over, she rushed up to her roommate. "Bloom!" she exclaimed.
The princess looked over. "Hi, Flora! What's up?"
"I need your help."
Within half an hour, the two girls were in their room. "So, you want to recreate a flower from Domino?"
"Yes," Flora said, smiling. "To plant in the garden I have planned. I want to win Harding over with wonderful Dominian flowers, and you're the best person to help me do it!"
"But Flora," Bloom said, "I don't know anything about flowers from Domino. I don't remember much about them at all."
"Not to worry. I know exactly what we want."
Flora slipped her hand into Bloom's, and squeezed. Bloom blushed a little, and embarrassed, Flora removed her hand. "Sorry," she whispered.
"No, it was nice," Bloom said quickly. "Besides… we'll… need to do that for the spell, right? Convergence?"
"A little."
Slowly, ever so carefully, Bloom took Flora's hand again. "So, what are we going to do?"
"I'm going to create a flower out of your fire."
Bloom's blue eyes widened in surprise. "I didn't know that was possible."
"I don't know if it is either, but it's worth a try. I've never even created a plant from thin air before… much less a plant that wasn't a real plant."
Bloom thought. "I could make fire, and you could effectively mold it out of that."
"That was my plan. It's worth a try… right?"
Bloom didn't answer with words. Instead, she summoned up her power and drew a shape in midair- in fire. Flames hung in the middle of the room, attached to nothing, not growing or shifting, but staying exactly how she wanted. There was a huge heart, and a stick figure drawing of Flora, then one of Bloom. And the stick figures were… were they kissing?
And then the real girls were. Gently. No tongue. Just lips and the wonderful feelings of having the other one so close. It didn't last more than five seconds. Bloom was the first to pull back. "I… I'm… I'm sorry," she said.
"No, it's fine," Flora said. "But… I don't want to get rid of these drawings, and I'll have to if I can use it for the flower."
"It's fine, just use this."
"I don't want to," Flora said again, with a hint of a smile.
Bloom returned the grin. "I can make it again any time you want me to."
"If you're sure." And slowly, Flora used her powers to fold the fire into petals. She created a real plant stem before she could worry that the fire would burn through it. But when it didn't, she gasped. "It doesn't burn?"
"I made it special," Bloom blushed.
Flora threw her arms around her friend. "It's perfect!"
Three days later, Flora walked out of the conference with the school board. Bloom was pacing nervously in the lobby. "How did it go?"
Flora smiled. "He loved it."
And she slipped her hand into Bloom's, and the two walked into Magix.
