Moi Musings: I decided to take a break from my other story (so sorry to those waiting for it! dodges knives) and write this one for a change. Just feeling angsty :)

He studied it carefully, sweeping a finger along its cool glass. He stared at it again. A long, clear stripe now adorned it. Clean against filth. Truth against lies.

It was barely noticeable, the thin film of dust, the hints of fingerprints, handprints. The small tints of blood. Their blood.

It was a small cover-up. A translucent barrier. The sky seemed just as blue and the clouds just as white when he looked through.

He set to work. A piece of cloth. That was all that was required for the first step. He rubbed, gently, the dust flitting around like tiny butterflies, invisible but there, before disappearing, forever, into nothingness.

The next job was more difficult. The wiping off of fingerprints. And handprints. He had to locate them. Otherwise, there would be no point. He could rub at a clean spot all day, and it would not get any cleaner. The fingerprints and handprints were situated almost carefully, in places hard to find. But he was careful, and after close inspection, all were found and wiped off, vanishing into the cloth.

Finally. The last step. The cleaning off of their blood. The blood of those he loved. Had loved. Water. He needed water. He stood up. Headed for the kitchen. A small basin, filled with water. He paused. Just for a moment. Then he headed back again. The watermingled with his tears.

It was clear now. The window was clean, almost glittering in the sun. Completely transparent. When he looked through, he knew that everything was real. The truth. Not blurred or distorted by impurities. He smiled bitterly.

The sky seemed less blue now.

After all, the sky is never blue for an avenger.
