Judge Ethan Rickover just got off the phone with his wife. He was very excited because he just found out that his wife was going to have their second baby. As he already was the father of a girl he had hoped this child would be a boy. A knock on the door was heard. It was Leland.
"Captain," Ethan said, "Come on in."
Leland smiled and sat down. Ethan and Leland were acquaintances and they would later become friends.
"Thank you Judge. Listen I want to speak with you about tomorrow. You never met Monk did you?"
"Adrian Monk? Actually no I haven't but I look forward to meeting him. From what I hear he is an incredible man. I have had the pleasure of meeting his wife Trudy. She was my high school student and we developed a friendship. It was a long time ago."
"Yes," Leland said, "Well Monk is... he has Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and he... his behavior sometimes may appear to be contemptuous however it is beyond his control. I wanted to give you forewarning so that you might extend him some courtesy if he does act in a way that is contemptuous. He really does not have control of his behavior."
"My daughter has OCD also," Judge Rickover said, "I wouldn't hold him in contempt for something he is unable to help any more then I would hold my own daughter in contempt for something she has no control over."
"Thank you," Leland said, "You are a good man"
