Petunia in the Graveyard
As she crept down the lane towards the graveyard, she glanced around to make sure no-one had seen her. Satisfied the area was deserted, she pushed the gate open with a creak and went in. After twenty minutes of searching, she stood in front of the large marble headstone. Tears ran down her cheeks as she stared at her sister's name. "I'm sorry Lily." she whispered, wiping her fingers across her cheek. She felt a horrible pain in her heart - an emotional pain. As she blinked away more tears, she noticed a small headstone sitting almost against her sister's. Kneeling down, she pulled the weeds away from the name, and realized it was a name she knew. With shock, she remembered the skinny boy with greasy black hair that her sister was once friends with. She lowered her head as fresh tears came, her voice piercing the silence of the graveyard. "You were there for my sister when I wasn't. How could i ever thank you?" At that moment, a breeze rustled through the graveyard, leaves blowing everywhere. She felt for a moment that someone was there with her, but looking around, she seemed quite alone. Suddenly, she heard footsteps coming from a thicket of bushes. She looked over and saw a beautiful doe approaching her. It looked her right in the eye, in almost the way a human would. She felt chills run up her spine. It stopped a little way from her, just looking at her, then walked right up next to her. Leaning its head down, it butted her gently in the shoulder with its nose. She reached up and gently stroked its neck, its fur all soft and warm. The doe seemed to smile a bit, then looked toward Lily's grave. Suddenly, the dead wreath of flowers leaning on the headstone came alive, the beautiful cream roses shimmering in the weak sunlight. She knew it was magic, and for once, she didn't feel frightened.
