Calm Understanding

I see you, I watch you.
Strong, brave, heroic,
never fearing what life may bring.
Not considering that this day might be your last,
or perhaps you just don't know.
Perhaps you don't realize the danger.
Metal clashing against metal,
Swift and eager swipes,
Not just by you but against you.
Like a child playing games,
only this may have a terminal end.

You're so young,
So naïve, so simple.
With only one thought,
To free.
To free the world from awful imprisonment.
Grown men run,
Flee screaming
With no thought but to save themselves.
While you stay.
Just a child though mature in courageous heart
Never letting your pains and complications get in the way.
The world has run away
Leaving you to fix its problems.
All alone

Your face shows no remorse
No regret
For the future chosen for you
your destiny of heroic life.
With calm understanding
Or maybe unknowing
You fight your battles.

I am afraid
Afraid for you
With each villain defeated
Bittersweet relief
For I understand
Ever monster killed
Brings you one step closer
to your own end.

How I dread that day.
The day you slip up.
Only one
One mistake, miscalculation, misjudgment
That's all it takes
And my hero is gone.
And then what?
Does another come along?
Another like you,
Another child pure of heart?
With the same innocence?
Ready to fight,
To defend?
Will the world forget you?
Quickly dismiss the one who gave up his life
In attempt to make theirs better?

How unfair
Unfair to you, unfair to me.
How I want to call you back
Tell you I was wrong
That your heroic destiny was meant for another.
So you could be safe.
So I wouldn't have to risk losing you.
So you could just sit back
And watch as someone else
Fulfills unappreciated deeds.
But it's not you
It's not in your nature
To just observe the world going to it's end.
You're too intrepid, too chivalrous, too devoted
Maybe for your own good.
But I admire you
And love you for it.
