I'm Not Impressed

Although Smellerbee could understand Longshot, without him needing to speak, it didn't mean that his silence didn't annoy her sometimes. They had spent the whole day out shopping for supplies for their trek from Ba Sing Se back to the forest where the Freedom Fighters used to live. Every time Smellerbee would ask Longshot's opinion on something, he would just give her a look and assume that she understood it.

In all honesty, she always understood each look that he gave her. However, recently she wished that he would just speak to her and tell her what he wanted. Ever since Jet died, the only familiar voice that Smellerbee heard was her own and she was getting sick of it.

Now that her and Longshot were back at their small apartment atop a bakery in the lower ring of Ba Sing Se, she could finally tell him exactly how she felt without worrying about causing a public scene.

"Do you have any idea how annoying you can be sometimes?" she yelled at him.

Naturally, Longshot didn't reply. Instead he just gave her a look, another damn look.

Smellerbee shrieked in frustration. "You are unbelievable! You're not even going to try to defend yourself?"

Longshot quirked an eyebrow. Why would I do that? You've already decided to get cross with me.

"I am not cross! I'm just frustrated…you always just assume I know what the hell your looks mean!"

But you do know what my looks mean.

Smellerbee screamed again and threw the blanket they shared at him, which he easily dodged. Unfortunately, the oil lamp hanging from the ceiling behind Longshot wasn't so lucky. Time seemed to slow down as the blanket hit the oil lamp, stayed wrapped around it for a brief moment before slipping to the floor. The momentum from the impact made the lamp swing with just enough leverage to unhook from the wire keeping it suspended from the ceiling and start falling to the floor.

In a flash, Longshot turned around and jumped at the oil lamp. With expert hands he caught the object before it hit the ground, tucked it under his arm and then rolled once on the wood floorboards, before kneeling up. He smiled triumphantly at Smellerbee from his position on the floor.

Smellerbee looked at Longshot with wide eyes, before blinking away her surprise. "You know what, I am cross," she said with a huff, trying desperately to not show him how impressed she was.

Longshot smirked. Sure you are.
