Dear Friend,
I'm aware that this is weird getting this letter but right now, I need someone to talk to.
I'm nervous about the year 2000.
The thought of living in the 21st century, at my age, is scary. A century, it's the kind of thing that's reserved for old people, the ones who tell you how old they were when the Titanic sank. I feel so…old.
I've also been hearing how it means the end of the world at the turn of the millennium.
Some classmates have been talking about how on New Years Eve, the computers will crash due to a bug that hacked into the system. Planes will crash, technology will override, and people will die by the thousands. The Apocalypse, basically.
That is some scary ass shit.
What's even worse is that some wackos actually believe this; one neighbor I knew killed his family and then himself after psyching himself out on The Book of Relevations and how all the diseases we have now are plagues sent from God. Needless to say I'm spooked.
The goth chick with the heavy eyeliner is telling me that we might as well do whatever it is we want to before we check out. Murder, heavy drinking, losing your mind at the drop of the hat. You're gonna die anyway, why not have fun?
Some kids are agreeing with her, and start partying and telling teachers where to stick it. Sharpay is planning a party on New Year's Eve as a way to have the best last hours of our lives. Anybody who's anybody is going, including me.
I just hope Taylor's going.
I wanna see her again before we all check out.
