Mind Games Pt. 1
Ruby woke up. Still groggy, she looked around her. She was laying on a grey cot, with an old, grey-faded blanket. The white cinder-block walls that surrounded her seemed to close in around her, strangling her hopes, her dreams, and her thoughts. An awfully dreary light hung overhead. The door that stood opposite her was of large, black, heavy mettle that seemed impossible to move. She got up and tried the door finding it was locked. She reached for Crescent Rose, hoping to maybe break it down. One of her fears was realized then. She was trapped in a strange room, alone, without her weapon. She panicked, yelling banging on the door for what felt like an eternity.
When she finally stopped, she thought she heard something on the other side of the door. Yelling out, almost against hope, "Hey, I'm in here. Help." Yelling this out two or three times, she got no response. All she heard was the wild grunting and growling that could only be Grimm. She then heard the bay of a Beowulf, and the screaming of people, possibly running from the Grimm. One person, who had come closer to the door, was screaming about her baby. All Ruby heard then was the snarl of a Beowulf, a sharp crack, and the anguished scream of the mother, and then silence. Ruby pulled herself away from the door, unable to listen any further. She wished she could have protected the people out side. It made her heart tremble to think of what was going on, the sound of the woman's screaming replaying in her mind.
Suddenly, she heard the familiar sound of Yang's gauntlets in contact with the Grimm out side. She could hear her sister's panting and grunting as she delivered each hit. A number of the hits landed on the door, creating dents. She could also here the sounds of Gambel Shroud hard at work. But with two loud cracks and accompanying shrieks of pain, Ruby once again felt hopeless, certain that her sister and her partner were dead outside the door. And with no way of getting to them, her heart plunged and felt it would break. She couldn't handle the emotions and she began to cry lightly. The sounds of the Grimm hunting the people out side kept up for hours. So long in fact, Ruby began to nod off, fitfully. And even when she did fall asleep, all she dreamed of were the people out side.
When she awoke again, the sounds from beyond the door had stopped. Ruby went to the door, wondering if she could get a glimpse under the door. She put her hand on the door to steady herself as she got down on the ground. And to her surprise, the door swung open.
