Dark Aqua

Aqua trudged along the path she had been following for years. In the realm of darkness there was no need to rest, no need to eat, no need to sleep. However she was tired; tired of fighting the heartless, tired of the endless labyrinth. The realm of darkness is a place where even time has lost all meaning. Eternity is as but a moment here.

"Seems like I have been walking for ages … How long have I been down here?"

A dark presence began to loom to her left, the colossal heartless was after her heart. Aqua readied herself, drawing her keyblade in preparation for the onslaught. The glistening white keyblade was the tool she had been using since she entered the never-ending world of shadows. Three more Darkside's rose up surrounding her, their power was overwhelming. Aqua glanced around, seeing the new enemies; she tensed, turning her head to get a better look at the Heartless. After looking over her new enemies, she began to relax, her grip on her keyblade loosened, sighing as her head bowed down in sorrow.

"Maybe I should fade into the darkness here"

It had been so long since she had seen the light, the only thing in her memories was the darkness, she had even forgotten how to smile. The Darkside raised its arm, raring to strike. The dark orb began forming in its hand. Aqua began to gather together her final thoughts.

'Ven, Terra, I'm sorry. Back then I wasn't there to protect either of you, and now … I don't think I will ever be able to. Master Erquas, I have failed as a master …you taught me to fear and attack the darkness and now look at me. But being trapped here …it's torture …a relentless pounding that destroys your mind and spirit, I just can't take it anymore. So please, I ask but one thing from all of you. Please … forgive me.'

Finally Aqua was sure of her decision, closing her eyes, taking a deep breath, she embraced the darkness.

The first thing she noticed was the crushing pressure, as if the weight of a thousand oceans was pressing from all sides. She felt her whole being begin to crack and the darkness begin to seep in every corner of her heart was slowly enveloped. As it did, aqua experienced unimaginable pain in every fibre of her body. A coldness began to settle in, the darkness was destroying her.

Yet despite this the more she accepted the darkness the more it began to comfort her, a warmth began to spread over her body. The darkness was damaging only to the light, so the more she became one with the darkness the less it hurt her. The pain began to ebb away until it was completely gone, soon the warmth had reached every part of her body. She was finally at peace.
