Sam was well aware that for many people, having a birthday meant great parties, family gatherings, expensive trips to exotic locations, lavish, beautifully wrapped gifts, sumptuous meals in sophisticated restaurants, days out in the sunshine, evenings at the theatre and altogether a once-a-year excuse to be spoiled and pampered.
On this balmy spring evening, Sam had no expensive treats, or beautifully wrapped gifts. He had the stars above his head, a cold beer in his hand, the open road before him, the impala at his back and his brother at his side.
Birthdays didn't come any better than this.
