"Please...please hold on...just hold on..."

Leon gave a light chuckle, shaking his head at the blond. Indignant, Cloud folded his arms over his chest.

"What? Did I say something amusing? Am I funny now?" He scowled. "You know, I don't think I like you anymore."

"You never liked me to begin with." The brunet gave him a vague smile and headed for the door. "Maybe you'll figure it out...someday."

Cloud hunched over the broken figure propped in his arms and gave a soft sob; his throat was so tight and raw now that barely a sound came out. He was conscious of neither the strain on his muscles nor the painful bite of the harsh evening wind as he sat awkwardly on the damp, rocky slope.

"Please, please don't go. You can't go, I need you here with me... I need you," he begged, pressing his face hard against the torn cheek and petting the matted brown hair desperately with shaking hands. "Please wake up. You need to wake up!"

"Mmm... Hey, you," Leon murmured, stretching languidly against the warm body behind him and threading his fingers through the hand that rested over his heart.

"Hey, yourself." Soft, dry lips pressed against the brunet's shoulder, then slowly made their way up the side of his neck. "May I...?" he breathed quietly against his ear, his hand moving with Leon's to curl around his hip and squeeze lightly.

Leon smiled into his pillow. "I suppose it's only fair." He turned to receive a kiss from the blond.

They both promptly recoiled.

"Morning breath."

"Duly noted."

"..."

"...Are you sure—"

"Cloud, seriously, if you don't, I am going to throw you out that window."

A faint thread of air passed briefly through cold, parted lips and chilled Cloud's wet cheek. Startled blue eyes widened.

"Leon?" He turned his face and eagerly brushed a thumb against the side of that beloved mouth, wiping away a trail of drying blood. "Lee?"

"Took you long enough."

"...Shut up."

"...Love?"

There was no response.

Cloud slid one arm beneath his lover's far shoulder and pulled the limp form closer to his own. He held the brunet's head tenderly under his chin and rocked slowly back and forth, choking in dry gasps of air. Even his tears had forsaken him now.
