Waiting

by Starsinger

It's the day before Kitty goes into labor in "Damned," and she's stuck, back at the Mansion with someone who's not Peter. Somewhat inspired by one of Madripoor Rose's stories. Still don't own them.

"Yes, Scott, we're fine. The kids are fine, tell Peter… No, he's asleep on the couch, or at least not moving, Ivanova and Lockheed have him pinned… Yes, that's why I answered the phone," Kitty continued as she rubbed her belly. "All right, see you when you get back." She waddled back to the couch with a rolled up a paper. She whacked the lump on the couch with it, landing it on the top of his head.

Logan sat up, dislodging the cat and the dragon who protested loudly. He caught Ivanova and Lockheed flew to the back of love seat and grumbled at them in English. Logan used his free hand to rub the back of his head, "Hey, what was that about?"

"That was for making me get up and get the phone," she announced, easing herself awkwardly onto the couch.

"Hank said moving around could get things moving," Logan said with an evil grin, he leaned over and placed his hand on her belly. One of the girls reacted by kicking at him. "Ah, I wonder which one has the attitude!" He leaned over and reached for the remote before Kitty snatched out of his grasp.

"Beware pregnant Ninjas, they're nastier than your normal Ninja," Kitty said with a grin. A twinge went through her abdomen, "You know, I'll personally be glad when my body's done practicing and gets the real deal done and over with." She turned on a channel with a show involving housewives somewhere that no one really cared about, but someone thought they made good television. She didn't really like it, she did it to annoy Logan, who hated it more than she did.

The teacher's lounge was probably not the best place for a reaching contest, and even though Kitty wouldn't use her powers in her condition, Logan couldn't seem to get around the huge projection of her belly. He finally gave up and got up, "I'll go make the rounds, as it would take you an hour. Do you want a beer?" Kitty's mouth dropped open, he grinned, "Just kidding, water?" Kitty nodded and laughed.

Logan returned with two twelve packs in hand, one of water and one of beer. He handed Kitty the water as he sat down next to her, "What's up?" he asked.

"Senator Kennedy died last night," she spoke quietly. Logan's grin faded. Kennedy was one of the few who fought for mutant rights. He voted against the Superhero Registration Act, stating that it was fear-mongering and another example of discrimination against minorities.

"Good man, we're going to miss him," he finally said into the quiet room. Kitty quietly agreed.

Senator Kennedy stood by what he believed, if he felt you were being discriminated against, even if he didn't agree with you, he was there, right beside you. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Kennedy family now in this difficult time.
