Author's note: Hey… So this is my first fic and I'd really really appreciate it if you review… If you want to, that is…

Nightmares

It is pitch black and all I see is the pale white moon in the starless sky. Wind whips through my hair, tossing it around. I lower myself to the ground and stretch out my hand. Grass tickles my hand. I am in a field. I stand up and look around. I can't see anything. Worry begins to spread throughout me.

Suddenly, a blood-curdling scream pierces the air. Deep and full of pain. Peeta. What are they doing to him? I glance around. He's nowhere in sight. Fear courses through me.

"Peeta! Peeta!" I'm screaming, I don't remember thinking bout doing it, but I am. "Peeta, where are you?" My voice is strained as a lump forms in my throat

I hear him again, louder, clearer. He's getting closer. A low growl reverberates through the air, sending a shiver down my spine. It sounds too familiar, I've heard it before and it triggers memories of blood and gore.

Images flash through my mind. Sewers, pods, claws, bared teeth, mutilated bodies, Finnick, blood, lots of blood. Mutts.

The awful reek of roses stings my nostrils and I'm light-headed.

"Peeta! Peeta! Where are you?" I need to find him. Now.

Then, glaring lights come on and I'm blinded for a while. When I open my eyes, I see them, Twice their previous size and twice as vicious-looking. The mutts surround me, The lizard-like ones from the sewers of the Capitol and the wolf-like ones from my first Games, the one's with the tributes' features, I breathe in and out, trying to calm down, but my breath shakes and I'm trembling.

A monstrous wolf-mutt cocks his head towards the moon and howls. I recognize the hard, merciless eyes. Cato. All at once, the mutts charge, but not at me, They leap away from me and towards a dark, shadowy figure a distance away. I squint and struggle to make out who it is.

Ashy blonde hair, stocky build… Then it dawns on me… It's Peeta

"Peeta! Run! Now!" I scream at him but he doesn't move. He's bounded to a pole. He can't move.

He's screaming too. "You're a mutt! Just like all of these guys! Evil and heartless just like them!" His words pierce through me like a spear and I collapse on the ground. My breathing is ragged ad I'm shaking violently. He's hijacked again.

The mutts claw at him, opening gashes. Blood flows down his body and legs. I'm screaming and my throat is raw but I can't stop. "Peeta! Don't hurt him! Peeta!" I'm hysterical. Tears flow down my cheeks and I tear at the grass. I will myself to move and help him but I can't. I'm useless, I can't help him, I can't save him.

Arms wrap around me and pull me closer to a warmth, "Sshhhh… Katniss, it's all right. We're all right. Nothing's going to hurt us," someone coos in my ear. I swat out my hand and smack whatever I can find, but the person continues. "It's just a dream, a horrible one. It's not real." Peeta! My eyes fly open and I look at him. No gashes, no wounds, perfect condition.

I curl my arm around his waist and pull myself closer to him. He smells of cinnamon and dill. Pressing my cheek to his chest, I start to sob.

He whispers soothing things into my ear until my sobbing turns to mere whimpering. I tilt my head and press my lips to his. I kiss him until I run out of breath then I pull away from him and look at him.

His hands move to my head and his fingers work through my hair. I edge closer to him and I put my mouth next to his ear.

" I love you, " I whisper.

I move away and look at him, somewhat expectantly. He caresses my face and smiles,

" I love you, too."

THE END
