Disclaimer: I don't own CATS!

Hey, just a little poem about one of my cats, tell me what you think!

P.S. the bit I add about telling a cat I love you by blinking, is actually something I read from several sources, apparently its a gesture of affection.

My dear little cat stares out the window at the Jellicle Moon,
she will never attend a ball.

She is known by the name Little Girly,
a name my dad picked.
She stares into the night,
searching for her roots,
knowing she would be known by
a different name out there among her kind.

My dad baby talks to this Jellicle,
but I have conversations with her.
I look her straight in the eye and I tell her
"I love you" by slowly blinking,
focusing hard on the words and the feelings as I tell her.
Thinking 'I' when I get eye contact,
'love' as I blink, and 'you' as I open my eyes.
And she blinks back.

She couldn't survive outside because she is declawed,
although not my decision.
She was bottle raised by me,
before her eyes even opened.
She has never been outside.

Sometimes I just sit and watch this little Jellicle,
and I am astonished by how she thinks.
How she invents her own games,
makes up her own little outdoors in her mind,
and how she contemplates her names.

I consider her family name to be silly,
and she thinks the same thing.
She puts up with it,
because that's what she's been called since she was a kitten,
but her Jellicle name is special.

She told me one day,
as I was petting her that she doesn't like 'Little Girlie',
and she looked at me seriously with those emerald eyes.
Those Jellicle eyes that reveal
so much about this cat that my dad will never understand,
even though he 'owns' her.

She looked at me with all the seriousness in the world,
with those emerald eyes agains't that brown tabby fur,
and she said, "my name is Esmeralda, and I am a Jellicle."
