Undyne glanced at the small, yellow bird nestling next to a gap between two platforms. Although it was knew fairly well that monsters willing to cross the body of water between the gap did not need any aid, the tiny creature insisted that it carried them to the other side. The captain of the Royal Guard did not understand why it was doing this. It only tired it out, so why?

Shaking her head, she proceeded to patrol the area for any sign of danger, or humans. They only needed one more soul to destroy the barrier. One more, and they were free. And the humans would pay for what they had done.

Papyrus' cooking had improved, in Undyne's perspective. If any other monsters took a look at their cooking process, they would run away. Of course, they had their normal physical training, but Undyne did not mention that he would not be able to join the Royal Guard, no matter how hard he tried.

It was after Undyne bid Papyrus goodbye when she decided to find out the answer for the bird's actions once it for all. She ran out of her house, pass the echo flowers, to the two platforms on each side of the waters.

The bird was still standing, watching for any passengers. It detected Undyne's presence, and waddled to her. The captain crouched down, her good eye meeting the bird's.

"Hey bird. Why do you insist on carrying people across this disproportionately small gap?"

The small creature puffed out its chest confidently and declared, "One day, I'm gonna carry everyone over the barrier!"

The words hit her like a truck. Dumbstruck, she stared at the bird's determined eyes for another good minute or so.

She, the captain of the Royal Guard, was known by everyone. Not because she did anything heroic, but just because she was the captain. This tiny creature was known by very few inhabitants of Waterfall, yet it still strived to reach its goal. To let everyone free.

Undyne knew this was impossible for such a petty little bird. But its efforts and dreams despite the impossibility is what struck her the most. Her shocked expression changed into a soft smile, then a large grin.

She lightly patted the bird. "Yep! One day, you're gonna carry everyone over the barrier! You're going to set everyone free!" The tiny creature smiled brightly, and stood proudly on the platform once more.
