Author's note : It took me 100+ episodes of One Piece before I could appreciate the beauty of this pairing. Why didn't I see it before? They are so obvious! Oh well, better late than never right? Anyways, comments and constructive criticism much appreciated!
He watched, and he remembered.
He remembered the time when that person thought he was the universe and everything revolved around him.
He remembered the time when that person thought he could do no wrong.
He remembered the times when that person was hurt and looked to him for comfort.
He remembered the times when that person was sad and cried on his shoulder.
He remembered the times when his presence was enough to make that person's face light up in a smile of pure joy and delight.
He remembered, and he watched.
He watched as that person, now all grown up – physically, that is -, danced around the other, avoiding the other's outstretched hands, much like the way the moon circles around the earth.
He watched as that person believed in the other, that the other could never lose and would always be by his side.
He watched as that person was hurt and was comforted by the other, loving hands easing away the pain.
He watched as that person was sad and cried within the gentle embrace of the other, as the other held him close and murmured words of comfort until the crying subsided.
He watched as that person's face lit up in a smile brighter than the sun and a thousand times warmer around the other.
Ace watched as he settled down for a nap, hat pulled low over his eyes.
"So this is what it feels like to give away a daughter in marriage," he thought fondly with a smile, as the sounds of Luffy's delighted laughter and Zoro's half-hearted grumbling drifted over to where he lay, soothing him to sleep like a lullaby.
