"Blaine?"
Kurt's voice and footsteps echoed in the empty hallway. The school day had ended a while ago and Glee club had already started, but Kurt didn't head for the choir room first. Before last period, he had found a note from Blaine in his locker. It wasn't signed, but Kurt recognized the handwriting. Meet me by my locker before Glee club.
He turned the corner to see Blaine leaning against his locker, facing Kurt with a secretive smile on his face. "Hey."
"Hey," Kurt replied, confused as to why Blaine had asked him to meet him here. "We're missing Glee club."
"I know. Don't worry, I already gave Rachel a heads up."
Kurt stared at his boyfriend as a small smile pulled at his lips. "What are you up to?"
"I wanted to give you your Christmas gift." Blaine took a step closer, closing the space between the couple and wrapping his arms around Kurt's waist.
"We're seeing each other on Christmas, remember? I thought we were gonna wait until then. I have yours at home."
"I can't wait any longer." Blaine pecked Kurt's lips and stepped back. He reached into his back pocket. Kurt only stared, wondering what the gift might be. A small red box was in Blaine's hand.
Kurt continued to stare down at it as Blaine slowly opened it, revealing a simple silver band.
"Blaine..." Kurt said, breathless. He wasn't sure what to think. He couldn't think clearly. What did it mean? "Are you..."
"Proposing? No." Blaine laughed, and with a wink added, "at least not yet." Kurt's heart fluttered and he couldn't help but smile.
"It's a promise ring," Blaine explained. "I, Blaine Anderson, promise to always be faithful to you. I'd never do anything to hurt you. I love you, Kurt, and I want everyone to know it. You mean the world to me, and in a few years, when we're settled in New York and you're working as an intern for Vogue or Versace and my first solo album is at the top of all the charts, I want to marry you. When we go to parties, I want to be able to introduce you to people as my husband. When I go to your fashion shows, I want to be able to lean over to the person next to me, point at you, and say 'that's my husband.' I want to be with you forever. I want us to grow old together. I want to be with you until the day I die." He let out a breath and smiled. "So, Kurt Hummel, will you accept this promise ring?"
"Of course." Kurt grinned from ear to ear and he pulled Blaine close for a kiss. It lasted much longer than the previous one, and Kurt wrapped his arms around Blaine's neck in case he tried to pull away. Not that Blaine planned to anytime soon.
After God knows how long, Kurt finally broke the kiss and rested his forehead against Blaine's. "I love you so much."
Blaine pulled the silver ring out of the box, and as he held it between his fingers, Kurt noticed there was an engraving of their initials on the inside. Between the initials was a tiny, tiny heart. He smiled again and shook his head in disbelief. He really did have the perfect boyfriend.
He watched as Blaine took Kurt's left hand and slid the ring onto his ring finger. It fit perfectly.
"I love you, too," Blaine whispered, leaning in for another kiss.
