Scared doesn't begin to cover how he feels at the moment. Terrified would be more apt. Does the Heavenly Father really have it in for him, as this latest manoeuvre would suggest? It's the only thing that makes sense, after all. Why else, after testing him with these untoward thoughts towards other men, would Heavenly Father decide to send him to Uganda. A place where homosexuality can result in 14 years imprisonment.
He'd been looking forward to going on his mission for most of his life. He'd heard the stories of missionaries getting to travel to Denmark, or Italy, or Australia, or even just across the States to California, where he'd never been. All of those places were exciting, and about as far from the Midwest as you could get. Or so he'd thought. He hadn't even considered Africa as being a destination at all.
Actually, he'd never really heard of Uganda. Apparently, neither had his companion, Christopher Thomas, judging by his reaction. The first thing that he did when he had the chance was to actually work out what type of place Uganda was, and how much sunscreen he'd need to bring. Finding out the climate was easy enough - Uganda was hot. Resigning himself to the fact that he would almost definitely end up sunburnt, he decided that it might be a good idea to read up on current affairs in Uganda - just so that he could better prepare himself for the mission. He sincerely hoped that it wasn't one of those African countries that had been rioting recently. That was when he found out about the anti-homosexuality bill.
Was this really Heavenly Father's plan for him - sending him to a place where he could actually be killed? Surely he wouldn't do such a thing. No, there had to be a reason why he was being sent somewhere so dangerous. There was a reason for everything that Heavenly Father did - he'd discover it in time. First of all, he had a flight to catch.
