Location: Planet, Chandrila. City, Emita. One year before Yavin 4.
Two people race through the city streets, one is a policeman in a tan overcoat and a black helmet with an eyepiece on it's rightside. "Stop right there, slow down now!" The officer shouts as the suspect drags down some outdoor shelf.
The suspect continues, even as he and the policeman rush past a trio of Imperial's, who join the chase and end it 6 minutes later. "Alright, i give. I'll return the credits." the suspect says as he drops the bag, which the officer takes.
"Good, now lets just-" The officer starts to say until one of the imperials placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Halt, this man assaulted an Imperial patrol. We shall take it from here." The leader says.
"What assault? He just ran past you the same as i did, sir." The policeman asked in a formal tone, getting a feeling he should look down, where he saw a scuff mark on one of the imperials boots.
"No, wait, wait, you aren't going to let them take me, are you?" The robber looked to him as he was hauled away. The policeman could only clench a fist, and walked off to return the credits to the bank.
Once he returns to the station, he goes to the shooting range to vent. "Whoa, easy Carlin, your day that bad?" One of his co-workers remarked in an informal tone.
"The Empire was making our job easier again, Toln." Carlin complained.
"Oh, what say you that we take a break, our shift is about over anyway." Toln offered.
"...Sure." Carlin agreed.
8 miles away at a Tapcafe called The Woozy Gronda, the two male officers and a third, who was female, walked in.
"What'll it be, officers?" A droid waiter asked. Carlin ordered a Cometduster and a Bantha burger, and went to find a seat before the others ordered.
When the others walked up, Carlin had his eyes glued to a Hologram of a Refresher room with a barely visible person in a steam-filled stall. "Who's the mysterious maiden, Carlin?" Toln asked, causing him to panic and cover the hologram.
"...Wynssa Starflare; it's just before the protagonist, who should be me by the way, runs in to get away from his pursuer." He explained without his formal tone while glaring at his friend.
"Hahaha, you would know that, family owned Holo-Theater and all. She's far too classy for you, not to mention older. You should find someone closer to our level." Toln said, pointing to himself, and the third officer, who was clinging to him.
"Toln, leave him be." Fenla scolded.
After ordering a second Cometduster, the three walk out, Carlin stumbles into a bush, while the other two went into Toln's Corona Limited Landspeeder. After half an hour, he stood up, and looked in the speeder to see the pair asleep. He shook his head and decided to take a walk, just him and his hangover. Three miles away, he noticed some activity at a street ad sign. "You up there, you don't look like city workers, get down." He called.
When the four strangers looked down, a Blaster bolt hit one of them from an alley across the street. "Ambush! Get them and scatter!" One of the "workers" shouted before he shot at Carlin, and the other two shot back at the alley.
He dodged, and ran to the alley, figuring whoever was there was alright as he was handed a spare blaster. "This? I'd rather have my T-10...You! You're that patrolman from before! This is all your fault!" He said, once he saw who he was with.
"Lt. Ulgant, and no, it is not, it's those Rebel saboteurs." The imperial told him as he ducked.
"And that robber?" Carlin asked as he shot one of the Rebels, who fell from the sign.
"He was sufficiently warned, and sent on his way." The Imperial replied.
"He was found in an alley, with a broken leg, for a scuffmark! An imperial officer this far into the core worlds should conduct himself better." Carlin said after staring at his first kill with the terrible feeling it wasn't a man.
But before the Imperial could reply, a stun grenade rolled over. Later, Carlin and Ulgant woke to find themselves chained up in a room.
"I've a bad feeling about this." Carlin said, before the door opened.
Prologue.
