There had been several reasons Garry Miller had applied for the job at Solar Blue Surf Academy- and one single reason why he loved it so. He had many, many years of surfing experience behind him, and had been on the pro circuit for at almost five years before the accident ended it. He had wanted to be a teacher, if he hadn't been able to make it as a surfer. And, in a way, it would put the two jobs in one, if he was accepted.

It was a little daunting, facing the curious eyes of six sixteen year olds. But, they were the kids he was going to live with, and there was no point in lying. He told them the flat out truth, not even trying to sugar coat it to spare their feelings.

And apparently, it worked. He was asked to move into the Solar Blue boarding house as soon as possible.

The next day, he arrived on the doorstep, his suitcase behind him and his surfboard under one arm. Bec Sanderson, laughing, showed him where to store his board, showed him his bedroom, and formally introduced him to the kids.

"This is just a quick house meeting to say welcome Garry", she had smiled, once the kids were gathered in the lounge room.

"Welcome Garry!" Guy had grinned impishly, and he had laughed.

Sure, the kids occasionally tested his patience. But they were teenagers, and he was their father for the year. It was what they were supposed to do.

But there was one thing that made Solar Blue better than any other place he had surfed before. And her name was Bec Sanderson.

There was something about the brunette that made his heart leap, every time he saw her. Her hair cascading down her shoulders, her hazel eyes shining, a smile on her face that could light up even the worst days. She could act the caring mother hen no matter what her mood was like, and tried, no matter the situation, to make everything better.

He couldn't count the amount of times he had stopped working and just stared at her.

It was a day early April that she finally caught him. It was raining outside, and cold for that time of month. The kids were in the lounge room, being a Saturday afternoon, drinking hot Milo and watching a movie. Bec was in the office, sipping her coffee, eyes on the computer screen, while Garry let thoughts of the brunette and he wander aimlessly in his head.

"Garry, are you alright?" she said finally, looking up from the computer. "You haven't said anything in a while..."

It was a known fact that their playful banter took up the silence that came along with paperwork, and it was something they had both become very accustomed to.

Shaking his head, Garry smiled. "Yeah, I'm fine".

How he wished that the brunette in the office chair was the girl he could point out to his mates and say, "She's mine".

He had fallen hard for Bec Sanderson, but what he didn't know was that Bec Sanderson had fallen just as hard for him.
