They had waited to tell her. Waited until they thought that it would be easier for her. But it wasn't.
Annabeth was the one who told her. She couldn't believe that it had been five years since she had become a tree. But a lot can happen in five years. Four, really. Maybe even three. But what did time matter if you had no reason left to live?
She had sat in the Zeus cabin for weeks. Alone, crying. Why did he leave her? He had been her best friend, her partner in battle, her true love.
And once, he visited her. She had whispered his name. He had said I'm sorry. Then she had asked, "Why, Luke, why'd you abandon me and Annabeth? Why'd you leave me?" He looked at her, and said, "I won't tell you because that would just hurt you more. But I will tell you this…Thalia Grace, I love you." and she began crying and he walked over to her bed and held her and kissed away the tears on her face, and then her lips even though there wasn't any tears there.
A few hours later, he stood up and said, "I need to leave." She looked up at him with hurt visible in her eyes but said nothing. He reached out and stroked her cheek, then left.
Why had he betrayed her? Why? Was it something that she had done? All she knew is that she would never stop loving him.
And that's why she joined the hunters...because she knew that no matter how much she loved him, he would never love her enough to return.
