Brittany's Story

"Hey Brit, will you go up to the attic and see if my old, guitar is up there?" "Sure Bits, hang on," Beginning of sophomore and Bits had already enough to write a song about. Crazy; I climbed up the twisting stares up to the attic. Stupid old house, stupid old tower. Jeeze; too many stairs!

I started from the back boxes knowing, it would probably be there. I opened up the first box. It had mine and Bitsy's last year's papers. Like those would help us. I started going through them. Remembering writing all of those tiresome reports. Then I came upon, a poem we had to write. I never did turn this one in.

Wishes

She grew up in a small town

Always wanted to go to a Big City

That didn't happen

She wished her dad would come back

She wanted to know why he left

That didn't happen

She wished that life would be normal again

That didn't happen

She wished that people liked her for her

Not because she would do anything to help them

She's still wishing

She went through middle school wanting a boy who liked her for her

Not because she was a cheerleader or she was pretty

That didn't happen

She wished that it had been her in the car wreck

Not her sister

That didn't happen

She sat by her sisters bed side wishing she'd asked what was wrong

Instead of going off with her friends

That didn't happen

She wished that she could see the life in her sister's eyes

That used to be there before the wreck

That didn't happen

She wished that summer would end soon

So that she could get back to reality

That didn't happen

She wished that they would move

Away from it all

That happened

She wished that her sister felt alive again

Instead of feeling like dying inside

It's happening, slowly

She wished she felt alive

Instead of dying inside

She wished she could let go of Yesterday

That didn't happen

She wished she could say how she felt

Instead of hiding it

That didn't happen

She wished she could be like her sister

Nice to everyone, without worries

That didn't happen

She wished that she would stop feeling so bad

And that life would slow down

That didn't happen

She wished that she would find a guy who loved her for her

And no other reason

That happened

And when that happened she got everything that didn't happen

The old sister she used to have come back

She became nicer

Time did slow down

Summers flew by

She cared more about her family

Instead of dying inside

She felt alive

Silent tears were falling, life was so much better than it used to be. God bless La Push and everything else. Without it, life would basically still be Hell.

I slid the papers back into the box, closed it and went off to the next one.
