A/N: Heeeeeeello nice people! Long time no see :D ! Sorry for my absence, I was busy and blah, blah, blah…. I decided to write something on one of my secret pairings, Takao and Reo. It's a Future Fish: College AU. Hope you enjoy :P
This is a short intro, hope to be updating this story soon ;))
It was a cloudy day of September when Takao Kazunari, a Shutoku high school graduate, eventually stepped in his new life adventure: college.
After endless study sessions with his former school and basketball comrade, Midorima Shintaro, he eventually managed to be accepted at Tokyo University, Mechanical Engineering to be picky.
Since rent was quite a big expense, he and Midorima decided to share a flat close to the university. It took them an entire weekend to move all their things into the new house and a couple of days were still needed to unpack and tidy the whole flat.
It was a Saturday night when, destroyed for the frenetic moving day, Takao decided to get something to drink. Midorima was too tired to follow him, besides he had never been a fan of after dinner hangouts, so he left his mate wandering around alone. Walking down the street of his flat, he noticed a fancy cocktail bar located fifty meters from his apartment. Cocktails weren't exactly his cup of tea but he wasn't in the mood to wander around and look for adventures that night.
He got inside and was welcomed by a waitress who showed him a place to sit. He was led to a small white table close to a wall window from which he could observe the street. Few seconds later, a waiter brought him a paper menu.. more than a menu, it looked like a dictionary: the only cocktail names he recognized were Mohito and Pinha Colada. In another occasion, he would have stood up and run straight to the closest Irish pub.
Takao wasn't finished looking through the infinite menu that the waiter from before came back, holding a glass in his tray. He put the glass on his table most to Takao's surprise, was he so tired to having ordered without realizing? Said men gave the waiter a questioning look "It's a white lady, the man at the counter asked me to bring this. It's his treat, of course."
Takao averted his eyes to a tall figure who was leaning on the counter, sipping at a cocktail which looked like his, after few seconds, he realized he actually knew the guy who sent this little treat. His jaw dropped in realization. Could be that his hawk eye was getting weaker? There was no mistake, he knew who the man was far too well, if his long raven hair and blue eyes could leave some doubt, the grace he was displaying left no space for any mistake: Mibuchi Reo was standing there in front of him. A flash sparkled through his mind, back to that moment in the Winter Cup, some years earlier, in which he heard Mibuchi making some appreciations on him. This bare thought made him feel slightly uneasy.
He looked down at his drink and glanced back at Reo at the counter "What the hell" he thought shaking the unpleasant feeling off. High school's first year was now years away, such an irrelevant fact shouldn't be affecting him. Stupid teen feelings aside, Takao was curious on what was that man doing in the surroundings since he was supposed to live kilometers away (or so he recalled from high school), not to mention that he had always had a great respect towards Reo as a player and he was really wondering on what his purposes were, could be an upcoming match?
Takao decided it would be bad education not to thank him for the drink, so he took his glass up and reached to the counter.
Seeing him approaching, Reo's lips curved into a smile. Takao patted his shoulder "Hey there, long time no see what are you doing around here?" he then asked. Reo shrugged, taking a sip at his drink "University. I transferred this year. Apparently, biomedical engineering in Kyoto is not as good as here."
Takao was quite surprised with the new. He swore Midorima once mentioned the former Rakuzan Shooting Guard was attending classical studies, since he was very passionate about classical literature back in high school.
"Wow, I'm in engineering too. Mechanical engineering. I just moved in today. It took us forever to find an apartment, having to deal with Shin-chan's horoscope nonsense is troublesome sometimes" Takao laughed, trying to get into a friendly mood.
Reo giggled "I guess so. Sei-chan mentioned me he let his behavior being affected by..." he brought to fingers under his chin "...what is it called again...yes: Oha-asa!"
"Oh, please don't mention. We lost the chance to grab a nicer and more convenient flat because the moon was somewhere and it was no good for signing contracts." He huffed "Whatever, we found a flat eventually and that's all that matters." He paused, taking another sip at his drink "What about you? Are you living with someone?"
Reo shook his head "Nope, I visited a couple of shared apartments but those already living in didn't really convince me. One of them was really rude, truth to be told. I decided to live on my own when I saw how shabby the last shared apartment I visited was. They hadn't washed dishes for weeks, I guess. I decided it would be better off on my own, even though it gets lonely sometimes." He rotated the drink in his hand, letting the ice tic against the glass "It's so convenient that there are so many cocktail bars around."
In that moment, Takao felt sincerely sorry for the man, he figured himself in his same situation and felt uneasy. It must have been hard for someone as popular as he supposed he was to be thrown into an isolation like that.
Setting all his previous uneasiness defiantly aside, Takao made a proposal out "Well, now you have someone you know. Barely, but you know me" he said, stretching his drink out for the other to cheer.
Reo smiled, he felt somehow relieved "You know, I was sure you would sent me straight to hell tonight"
Takao snickered "For what? You offered me a drink, you didn't point a gun to my face. Besides I thought you didn't even remember me."
"Seriously? I don't forget about skilled players that easy."
Takao felt slightly flattered at that. Being respected by someone who was so strong sure was an accomplishment.
"Well, usually when someone recognizes me they ask about Shin-chan soon after"
Reo laughed at that "Oh, I know the feeling. Ninety percent of my conversations with strangers unavoidably ends with them asking me to fix an appointment with Sei-chan"
"And we're not in the worst situation either, think about the poor Kasamatsu-senpai having to deal with Kise's large fanbase" laughed Takao
"Wait, but Kasamatsu wasn't the captain? The one that often kicked him?"
"Yeah, right. Well, maybe his attitude saves him in these occasions."
Within a trivia chat about the Generation of Miracles member and another, drinks were swallowed down just like water. Takao learned that his current drinking buddy was pretty funny. He expected him to be a snob and full of self-man, or at least that was what his body language suggested but he turned out to be very easygoing and carefree. He always reserved a tone of elegance, never a single curse was to come out of that mouth. Takao felt happy he had the chance to meet him, he had the feeling a good friendship was about to sprout.
