Percy sat up quickly in his bed, awoken abruptly. The mid-morning sunlight streamed into his window. He had been dreaming... Of a place he hadn't been to in a while. Ogygia. The dream had been strangely real, as if he had actually been there. And Calypso... well she looked as if she hadn't aged a day. Which, she probably hadn't. She had looked so beautiful and fresh, like a spring flower in the sunshine. Thoughts of the lovely daughter of Atlas and her silky caramel hair overcame Percy's mind as he remembered his days with her. Often since he had wondered that if, ifhe had stayed... how it would have been.
"Percy!" The sound of his name, drawn out in its two syllables, snapped him back into the here and now. Camp Half-Blood, Cabin 3, almost three years later.
"What are you doing still in bed? We have work to do!" The voice had been Annabeth's. She had walked into his cabin, looking slightly annoyed, already in her armor. It was true, they did have classes to teach and eager campers that were waiting. He sighed. Life with Calypso would have been way easier. No chores, no work. Just peace.
"Gimme one second, okay? Jeez," He sounded irritated. He was struggling to unwrap himself from the inside of his navy blue cocoon of bed sheets, when he noticed Annabeth studying him carefully. Then as he was climbing out of his bunk she leaned over and kissed him sweetly.
"Don't worry about it. I'm sorry I sounded demanding. Let's go have some fun torturing the Ares kids," Percy knew that she really wasn't that sorry about it, but he also knew that she hadn't wanted to make him feel bad.
"It's OK, I just didn't get good sleep last night," Percy said, pulling on a moderately clean t-shirt. A total lie - he'd gotten wonderful sleep, dreaming about that wonderful place. Until he realized that it was, in fact, a dream. "Another dream." He hoped she wouldn't ask what the dream was about. So far, they'd been successful in avoiding that subject.
Annabeth smiled warmly and grabbed his hand, leading him out the door, hoping to distract Percy from whatever dream was making him act so weird. As they walked, she kept up a constant stream of conversation. About how Will Solace and Katie Gardener had FINALLY started going out, about the plans for the newest godly cabin and other miscellaneous things that she thought might interest Percy. Because this intelligent daughter of Athena had a pretty good guess as to what his dream was about. And she knew exactly what he had left behind.
They were almost to the arena, still holding hands, when Percy squeezed hers tightly. Life with Calypso would have been easier, yes. But life with Annabeth would always be happy. They and their friends were still alive (a major feat for most demigods), Camp Half-Blood was safe and Olympus was peaceful (for the time being).
He was the one with the Happy Ending, and Percy wished he could say the same for Calypso.
