I don't own Httyd, sadly. But, I do own this story. I hope this version of the prologue is better than the first one.
I'm trying to make the chapters more detailed. Let me know what you think. Also, this story is set in the Race To The Edge series on Netflix.
Toothless stared at his tail with wide eyes, his mind numb from shock. The new fin, brown like the first replacement, was spread wide like his genuine one. He swung his tail around and rapidly opened and closed his fins, shivering from joy. His boy had invented something to allow him to fly on his own again. At the thought of his boy, Toothless swung his head around to stare at Hiccup, an expression of excitment and happiness on his face. Suddenly, Toothless's thoughts turned towards the strange, metal head covering his Soulbrother had lost. The... breast-hat, as Hiccup had called it. Toothless still remembered where it had fallen and, in a split second, made his decision. He snorted and locked eyes with his rider, taking in the boy's smell. Despite the war being over, it was still dangerous. Hiccup reached out to him and Toothless snorted again, jerking back and spreading his wings slightly. He needed to go find the hat. Whirling around, he snapped his wings down and shot into the air, trying to ignore the stabbing in his heart from the pain in Hiccup's voice as he called after him. The feeling of flying under his own power, without any rigging, was exhilarating but he couldn't enjoy it. Not while his Soulbrother was suffering.
When he reached the area of water where the breast-hat had disappeared his ears stood up in surprise. The hat wasn't there. Why was it not there, when he'd seen metal float before. Not often but it had happened. Toothless shook his head and growled before folding his wings and diving into the water, pulling on his inner heat to counter the cold. He stayed in the water for the next three days, only surfacing to breath and thanking Dracina for his ability to stay underwater for so long. Soon, three days turned into a week, then into a month, the Night Fury's hope diminishing with every hour. Toothless broke through the surface, shaking his head while he spread his wings over the water. He growled and leapt out of the water, beating his wings furiously before shooting away. he skimmed the surface of the ocean until he spotted a familiar boat. His ears pricked and he grinned for the first time since he left Berk. When he landed on the deck of the boat, Johann jumped and ran into the mast.
"Ah, the mighty Toothless. I am surprised to see you without Master Hiccup. You gave me quite a... what are you searching for?" Toothless ignored the merchant as he rumaged through all of the man's wares. His tail twitched angrily when his search yielded nothing, his eyes narrowing. He turned towards Johann and hissed, his claws gripping the wood beneath him. He spread his wings and took off, blasting away in a dark streak. Johann stared after the dragon before shaking his head.
"Master Hiccup will want to hear about this."
Toothless shot through the sky as his mind raced, his search lengthening to four months as he went past the fogbank. Finally, after almost half a year, Toothless broke. The pull on his heart had been getting worse and worse as the months went by and now, it was too much. He needed to go home, stubborn pride be damned.
Ryker scanned the ocean and sky, his eyes narrowed in annoyance. His brother would expect new dragons when he went back. Letting out a growl, he was about to head below deck for the night when a faint shrieking reached his ears. He looked up and from the gathering gloom appeared a jet black dragon. A Night Fury. Ryker's eyes widened and he yelled at his men to capture the dragon, an evil glint in his eyes. The dragon looked at them and slowed slightly, it's acid green eyes wide and searching. When the chain shot out, it screeched and began to speed up, only to have a chain in front of it, wrap around it, pinning the bat-like wings to it's sides.
Toothless screamed as he went down, his mouth snapping shut as he hit the water. His tailfin had broken when part of the chain wrapped around the flared prosthetic while he thrashed, trying to free himself. He felt himself jerk as he was yanked backwards and pulled onto the boat. Quickly, his head was pinned down and he was muzzled. Ryker grinned down at the dragon as the ship turned around. His brother was going to love this.
Dracina is essentially the dragon's deity. They don't worship her like a religion but she was the first dragon to breath fire in their culture. It's my own headcanon but if anyone wants to use Dracina in a story, either in the same way or as a character, go ahead. no need to ask permission.
