Goggles

So these kinds of stories always pop up at me at the most inconvenient moments. I mean, just this morning I… Nevermind. I just hope that this story isn't too unoriginal!

Matt didn't go outside very often, but he felt this time was special. It was his birthday.

"Get your own money, Matt!" Mello hadn't given him anything for his birthday, claiming it was "too much to deal with" while he was working on the Kira case.

Matt sighed, and continued to wander around the mall. Then, in some sort of punk store, he caught them. The most perfect goggles he had ever laid eyes on.

He did as instinct told him. He walked in and fished out his wallet. He had about forty bucks in it. Not enough for anything. Not now.

"Can I help you?" Some dude with too many facial walked up to him as he entered the store.

"How much are those goggles in the window?" He leafed through the two twenties in his pocket, sighing discontentedly.

"They're fifty dollars." He responded.

"Ugh. Great. See ya." He left the store, even more disappointed than when he entered. He thought about asking someone for ten dollars, but then he'd seem like a weirdo. So he contented himself with moping about.

Then, he saw none other than that leather-clad, gun-toting blond walking out of the same store he'd just walked out of. He decided to make nothing of it, seeing as Mello had probably already forgotten that it was his birthday and decided to go buy himself some more leather pants or something.

So Matt ignored that little fact and walked back to his car, driving according to the speed limit instead of his normal 120. Obviously, he was still upset about not getting those goggles. Then he slapped himself, realizing he could have gotten at least two X-Box games with forty dollars! He'd been wanting Condemned: Criminal Origins for forever! And the price was just dropped! Ugh, he was an idiot.

When he got back home, he decided to go get his DS. When he found that it wasn't on the couch, he thought that Mello might have moved it so that he could work. So off to his room he went.

When he got there, he saw a couple of poorly wrapped packages lying on his bed. He looked around for Mello, before tearing at the smaller on first. Condemned.

I guess I've told Mello one too many times! He thought, smiling. Then, he turned to the slightly larger package. His eyes widened when he realized what was in there.

He tore at the wrapping and opened the box, to find what it was. The orange-tinted lenses. The comfortable strap. It was perfect. And…Mello had known.

Wait a second…

Matt grinned and ran up to Mello, who was typing on his computer, trying to find information on Kira.

"You bastard!" Matt shouted, jumping on Mello and grinning.

"Get off me." Mello frowned, trying to either burn a hole through Matt's stomach, or read through him.

"You stalker! You knew that I wanted all of this stuff!" He grinned and hugged Mello.

"Dude, get off. I'm not your gay-toy." He pushed Matt to the side and began reading again.

"I knew you cared! Ha! Score one for Matty!" Matt continued to relish in his victory. That was before Mello socked him.

"Now shut up!" He'd shouted, viciously tearing at a bar of chocolate.

Matt sat next to Mello silently, grinning like mad.

That's why he always wore his goggles. A reminder of the person that cared for him, even if he didn't show it.
