Author's Note - I decided to edit the story, since it SERIOUSLY needed a quick revamp. I hope you like the changes, and if this is your first time reading the one-shot, I hope you enjoy it. Please remember that the pairing is Ike x Zelda, so if you don't like the pairing, then please remember that you have chosen to read the story at your own discretion. Thank you. :)
Ike, Hero of Crimea and leader of the Greil Mercenaries', stood before the Hylian cleric sporting a placid expression. Anxious, the mercenary heaved a small sigh and absentmindedly fiddled with his indigo bangs, already dreading the fact of having to remove his signature blood red bandana for the course of the day. Hands itching to crack his stiff finger joints, he amused himself by surveying the current location and his current garments.
I must look quite … different. He decided, catching the eyes of his two best friends within the Super Smash Brothers tournament, Link and Marth. Marth, the reigning Prince of Altea, offered the mercenary a slight nod and smile, while Link, the Hero of Twilight and Hyrule, offered the blunette a cheeky smile and thumbs up.
"Good luck," he mouthed, making Ike's right eyebrow twitch subconsciously.
Ike grunted and looked down, eyeing his silk black pants and matching Italian shoes in slight disdain. I hate wearing such expensive clothing … it's a waste of money … But then again, there was a reason behind the switch in wardrobe, not to mention the switch in setting.
…
The reason behind such an exchange you might wonder. Well, the answer was simple: the elegant and wondrous Princess of Zelda of Hyrule; bearer of the Triforce of Wisdom, and soon-to-be bride of Ike.
Does that answer your question?
Ike then felt his heart rate partially increase as the sounds of trumpets emanated from the northern portion of the Church. He licked his chapped lips and watched those cherry stained doors like a hawk, waiting for the moment when she would enter, and become his, and he hers.
Seconds ticked by which soon turned into minutes. And, before either Ike or any of the guests knew it, those doors had open to reveal several adorable, young flower girls. The women "awed" at the sight of them, while men smiled charmingly, watching the young ones skip down the aisle, tossing plentiful amounts of white, red and pink petals into the aisles and down the pathway that would soon lead the bride to her groom. A few of the guests, mainly the women, tried to catch a petal or two before they hit the ground, while Ike and his male counterparts struggled to suppress their chuckles. It was both a charming yet drôle sight to witness.
Ike, now smiling a faint grin, heaved a small sigh and straightened himself, watching out of the corner of his eye as the last flower girl rounded the bend. Another faint sound of trumpets was heard, announcing the arrival of the person he had been waiting for. Whether he was aware of it or not, a small amount of perspiration formed atop his brows and lower neck, making him tug at his tie … in either nervousness or excitement.
And then, she entered, looking more stunning and beautiful than ever before.
At this exact moment, Princess Zelda was the epitome of beauty. Her silky golden locks, which were tied back in a tight yet lush bun, glistened under the Church's stain glass windows and seemed to shine brighter than the purest of gold. Her ivory skin shone, too, and was plenty complemented by the beautiful white dress she had on. Hugging her small, firm frame fully, the dress was a perfect fit. It was modern enough to please her bridesmaid Princess Peach originally, but was conservative and long enough to satisfy herself – and the Royal Hylian Courts as well.
Ike watched the woman before him walk down the aisle, coming closer and closer towards him. The more he watched her, the more he could only think of one word to currently describe her: Goddess.
It was true; the Princess certainly did resemble a Goddess. More than anything did Ike wish to then claim her as his, and have her all to himself; but he first knew that certain matters must be attended too – the ceremony for one. Thus, holding back his impatience, Ike, along with the rest of the crowd, watched in silence as Zelda, now accompanied by her father, began to walk down the aisle and make their way towards him. Ike could hardly wait.
Watching and staring, Zelda and Ike then locked gazes and stared to each other in silence. She offered him a warm, heartfelt smile and immediately to seeing this, Ike's cheeks faintly turned a light shade of red. To the sight, Zelda giggled but offered the warrior a small nod, accompanied by another round of widening grins.
Both her father and she soon arrived, and Ike knew it was then time. Waiting for Zelda to finishing curtsying, and him bowing, both royals soon began to make their way towards Ike. It was now time. Still smiling like a dolt, Ike watched as both approached him, and when standing next to his fiancé, Zelda offered a hand to which he dutifully accepted.
A small blush graced her cheeks upon their entwined hands, to which Ike couldn't help but laugh and offer a small wink as his form of comfort. Rather discreetly, he then leaned over and whispered, "You look stunning." Zelda nodded – her method of thanks – and then together without exchanging another set of words, both glanced towards one another and stayed silent for a moment before turning to face the priest.
With Zelda on the left and Ike on the right, the Priest soon took in a deep breath and looked towards the soon-to-be married couple. "Dearly beloved," he began, "we are gathered here together under the sight of the Three Great Goddesses: Nayru, the Goddess of Wisdom, Farore, the Goddess of Courage, and Din, the Goddess of Power, to join together this man and woman in Holy Matrimony. May the Great Three bless this couple and keep them safe for all of their days. And now," he continued, eyeing Ike. "Before we continue with the procession, the groom wishes to say something to the bride."
Zelda turned to face Ike. She watched him reach into his pant pocket and withdraw a small piece of paper. He then cleared his throat and began.
"Zelda Harkinain," he started off slow, trying his best to not stutter too much. "I've loved you since the moment I first laid eyes on you …" He looked up to meet her gaze. Crumpling the sheet within his palm, he knew he didn't need paper to dictate on how to organize and speak his heart's true thoughts. "At that moment, I knew you were someone special; you were the one for me …
"I loved how you were never one to judge others without a fair trial. Despite how others might have responded, you never waivered from your views and opinions, which is what first held my interest." A few in the background chuckled in response to his sentence, yet Ike merely ignored them. He was far too enraptured by the beautiful young woman standing before him.
He continued. "To myself – and I'm sure a few others – you are a beautiful rose amidst a field of thorns. Your beauty stands out evenly and justly, and only those who dare – with enough reverence and courage – hold the honour to house a single piece of your heart.
"You stand out of the crowd, and in my eyes especially, you are a Goddess and always will be. Thus, after today, I will forever be proud to call you my wife. Which is why, I'm happy to say I love you, Zelda Harkinain now and forever."
And with that, he looked back towards the Priest and nodded. "I am finished."
Zelda's rosy lips turned upwards into a large smile, making Ike's eyes soften. "Ike, I love you."
The Priest watched the duo, seeming intent on continuing. "And now, we shall say the eternal vows." Commencing with Ike, the Priest began. "Do you, Ike Greil; take this woman, Princess Zelda Harkinain of Hyrule, to be your lawfully wedded wife? Will you promise to love, respect and honour her throughout your years together? Do you promise to love her through sickness and health and to never leave her side?"
Without even looking at the priest, Ike took Zelda's hands in his, speaking sincerely and lovingly, "I do."
The Priest nodded and looked towards Zelda. "And now, do you, Princess Zelda Harkinain of Hyrule, take this man, Ike Greil, to be your lawfully wedded husband? Will you promise to love, respect and honour him throughout your years together? Do you promise to love him through sickness and health and to never leave his side?"
Zelda glanced towards the Priest and then to her father before uttering softly, "I do."
Ike's heart soared in happiness when hearing those two words escape from her lips.
Even the Priest looked ticked pink. "Then now, I am now happy to pronounce you both husband and wife. Husband, you may now kiss the bride." And with that, Ike removed his grip from Zelda's hand in order to wrap both arms around her willowy waist to draw her in for a loving and heartfelt kiss, which would symbolize the start of their marriage and the start of their lives together as husband and wife.
Author's Note - Overly cheesy, perhaps... but its cute and what I was going for back when I first wrote it in 2009. I just cleaned it up to make it better, and I hope you all enjoyed it. Please feel free to voice your opinions. I'd love to hear your thoughts. All the best. *hearts*
