Hey.

OK, this is a random oneshot, no idea how it happened.

Unspecified companion, no names mentioned, so it could apply to any of them, classic or new Who.

His hand is in yours, and you're running for your lives, running away from whatever monster it is that the Doctor has annoyed this time.

Even as you run toowardsthe TARDIS, that wonderful, beautiful amazing blue box, and you leap over an obstacle, a grins reaches your lips, and you smile as gunshots fire over your head.

Travelling with the Doctor is neither safe nor relaxing, and you are constantly in dangerous situations, but its the greatest fun you've had in your life, and you wouldn't miss it for the universe.

Sometimes, on a quiet day, you ask him about his past, and his face, normally so happy when he's with you, turns dark, and you can tell that he's sad, so you stop asking, change the subject, move on.

You reach the TARDIS, and race inside, quickly closing the doors, as you formulate a plan to defeat the monsters you face.

Within minutes the crisis is over, and the two of you are on your way, on to s new adventure, to more planets, to more running, but that doesn't stop you from feeling a bit of regret as the TARDIS de-materialises; running with him is one of the times you feel most alive.

And you love it.

When you run with the Doctor, it feels like it will never end. But however hard you try, you can't run forever. Everybody knows that everybody dies. And nobody knows it like the Doctor. But I do think that all the skies of all the worlds might just turn dark if he ever, for one moment accepts it.
