It was a still night in the TARDIS.

The library was quiet as Bill and I read in silence near the blazing fire. It was peaceful, well almost. It was until she started asking questions.

"Do you sleep?", She asked.

I pretended not to hear her as I wet my finger and flipped the page.

"Doctor", she said.

I looked up from my copy of Tale of Two Cities.

"Do you sleep?", she persisted.

I closed my book and leaned back, "Why do you ask?".

"I hadn't thought much about it till now, but do you?", Bill asked.

"What do you think?", I asked.

"I suppose you'd have to", she said with a look that told she wasn't completely certain.

"There you have it then", I said as I peeled myself from my chair.

"Do you dream?", She asked quickly as if the words wouldn't come fast enough.

Obviously she wasn't going to let this topic go. I walked over to the fire place and placed my head against the mantle. I looked into the fire and watched as the flames jumped over the logs.

"What?", I sighed at the companion behind me.

"Do you dream?", she asked again slowly, slightly bouncing her foot nervously.

"Yes", I said in a low, deep voice, my attention being consumed by the fire.

She was quiet. I could feel her eyes fixed on me. Scanning me for any cues as to what I was thinking.

Somewhere deep in the library a book hit the floor drawing my attention away from the flames.

I telepathically sent a wave of gratefulness to the TARDIS and turned around.

"You should get to bed. Big day tomorrow, you wouldn't want to miss one of the largest star expansions in the nebula of Crelabara. Three hundred and forty-two stars expanding at the exact same moment. Or the trip to the 100 year market of Dorval. And not to mention whatever trips we don't plan that just sort of happen", I said waving my hand towards the door as if to shoo her away.

"Right… Doctor are you alright?", She asked, nothing but warmth in her eyes.

"Why wouldn't I be?", I asked in an exasperated tone, rolling my eyes.

"Right...Well goodnight then Doctor", She said then walked to the door before turning around, "You know, I'm here when you're ready to talk".

She walked out and down the corridor with one last, additional comment, "Anytime".

I rested my head against the mantle again and stared into the roaring flames, allowing my mind to wonder until I heard Bill's morning shower tick on.
