Jack thinks a lot. Maybe too much.
His team are falling apart, or what's left of them. Three out of the five. More than half survived, yes, but it's still torture for all of them.
Owen went first and the way he went would haunt Jack in his dreams for years to come. He could imagine the radiation flooding the room and Owen screaming. Except he didn't know whether Owen would scream or not. Whether he would feel the radiation cutting through him, or just watch as his body unravelled itself? Whether he would remain tied to that one spot, undead, unable to move on or leave that place? Whether Owen would become the ghost in the machine?
And then went Tosh. She died trying to save the man she loved but in the end she listened to his end through the speakers. She heard the radiation flood the room and the com spark out of life. She saw the melt down begin and turn inwards on the life-sized screen. She witnessed everything she lived for die, right in front of her eyes.
And she died in Jack's arms. They all did in the end. That's the least he could do. Hold them and use his curse to take some of the pain. She looked up at him in wonder. He didn't know why. Whether she felt it working or she was just so lost in the end? She looked up into his eyes as if to say:
"You can save yourself. You can always save yourself. Save me. Please."
