A crumpled memo found in the trashbin of the S.T.A.R.S. lounge - it is dated seven days before the incident at the Spencer estate:

Dear Brad,
You are receiving this letter in correspondence to the invaluable information you provided of S.T.A.R.S. and BRAVO team members - biographies and their backgrounds. However, X Day is drawing near, and we are no longer in need of your services. But, as promised, you shall receive your payment at the end of the month from a most trusted individual - Captain Albert Wesker. We here at Umbrella hope that you are not TOO disgruntled over this information. To ensure complete protection of the company, please do not try to contact us... for your sake. If we should hear that all went well, you can expect handsome checks at the end of each month from myself, the Chief of Security. It is our way of saying thanks. However, if pandemonium were to ensue, we ask that you destroy any information regarding the research performed at the Arklay Laboratories.
