Prompt: The Four Elements.

Author: Blake (daisukeismyboyfriend)

Kureno. Air.

As the Bird in the Zodiac, Kureno was always continually asked how it felt to fly, to break his ties with gravity and soar through the clouds that no human could truly touch.

The truth was that he'd forgotten. Completely forgotten.

He would sit beneath the sakura trees he remembered perching in as a kid, and let his mind drift back to when he was still under the curse. He'd remembered sadness, fear of Akito, happiness, feeling…odd…and then the whistling of the wind through his ears.

He couldn't remember anything more about transforming. He'd almost never transformed as a child- he was hardy and rarely got sick enough, and his parents never touched him, except when he was a baby.

Kureno had no affinity with the air whatsoever.

He liked it that way. It was just another thing that put him apart from Akito.

Akito was always changing- happy and joyful one minute, set to kill the next- like the brisk winds that blew around the Sohma house.

Kureno was like earth. He was solid, he didn't deviate from his principles, he worked slowly but steadily. So he always wondered, Why am I the Bird? I share no characteristics with it whatsoever. How'd the vengeful spirit choose me?

He was buying lunch when he realized why.

He did change.

He was the first who broke the curse.

And like the Bird who had possessed him, he'd broken free of the cage and flew off.

And for the first time, he realized what flying felt like.

It felt like freedom. He could spread his wings and soar over Akito, over Shigure, over everyone who had caused him pain and clipped his dirty wings.

Flying, he wasn't Kureno. He was a breath of fresh…

Air.

So? How'd you like it?

I guess I didn't really make a drabble…it's supposed to be 100 words, this is 295…so hey, 100 off, close enough.

Kureno's a great person to write angst for. Just a thought for all you people who write angst…shounen-ai angst, cough cough cough…

Ha. I guess I need a cough drop. Anyways, thanks for reading, please review so we can write better fics! And for the pat-on-the-back-feeling.

Flame and I'll eat you with HP sauce.
