A/N: This is my joining entry for Becoming the Tamer King challenge.
…
It had been five years since the defeat of Quartzmon and the Digimon had returned to the real world. Most of them, at least. However, Psychemon still hadn't returned. So while everyone was having a good time inside with their partners, Ryouma sat outside staring up ahead.
"You'll meet him again you know," a voice said and Ryouma looked up to see Taiki.
Ryouma winced, seeing the one person he had hurt the most, the person he admired. "Maybe I don't deserve to after what I did to you."
"Have faith, Ryouma." My usual biting tone was curbed as I stepped up beside my former leader. My head tilted and brown eyes stared into Ryouma's sad green ones. "Psychemon will come back to you." I placed a hand on Ryouma's face, stroking it to reassure him.
Taiki nodded emphatically. "Ren's right."
Ryouma sighed depressingly and made to brush my hand away, but his mind refused at the last second and instead he clutched my hand obsessively.
Taiki smiled at that. He was glad to see that I was there for Ryouma and looked to see Tagiru, Yuu and Airu join them.
"Hey," Yuu commented. "Is everything alright?"
"Yeah, you guys just came out!" Tagiru remarked, blinking. "Ryouma, you doing okay?"
Ryouma managed a weak smile. "I'm fine."
Tagiru shook his head. "No, you're not! You look pale and Yuu says being pale is bad."
"The one time you listen to me," Yuu stated, rolling his eyes.
I managed to pry my hand out of Ryouma's grip and walked a distance away, after telling the others to follow me. As I glanced back, a small smile crossed my face as Airu cheekily stuck her face in Ryouma's personal space and started on him. I noticed, with a great amount of concern, that Ryouma just didn't seem to be there.
I turned back to Taiki, Tagiru and Yuu. "Tagiru is right, but I believe it's more than that. I often sleep at Ryouma's house when I can't stand my parents and... I think... he's starving himself. We need to find Psychemon soon, for Ryouma's sanity..." I paused, sighing worriedly.
Taiki was concerned. "I should ask Shoutmon to try and trace the data of Psychemon."
Tagiru nodded. "I'm sure that'd work somehow. Shoutmon is the King, after all."
Yuu glanced at me. "Want me to try talking to him? I kind of understand how he's feeling."
I pulled my cap off of my head and kneeled on one knee, eyes to the ground. "Please do," I murmured. I glanced up. "Ryouma's depression is affecting Opossumon and Dracumon."
Yuu nodded. "Okay, I'll talk to him about it. Airu, get out of his face." He sighed.
Airu pouted. "Not nice, Yuu!"
Ryouma cracked a small smile at that. "I'm okay. Really. You guys should go back and enjoy the food."
From where he stood with Taiki, Tagiru yelled: "Oi! You're not okay, now let Yuu-!" Yuu sensed what the finishing part was and elbowed Tagiru in the side semi-roughly, giving him a look that said: enough.
Ryouma blinked dazedly at them in confusion, wondering absently what the fuss was about. I coughed discreetly and Yuu nodded, walking over to the silver-haired eighteen-year-old.
