Hi! This is a first in a series of Yuffie/Kairi drabbles I'm working on. I'm hoping it will turn out well and that you all enjoy.
Disclaimer: Unfortunately Kingdom Hearts/FF and its awesome characters are not mine. Though I'd love to have a Yuffie to drag around with me.
Thieves and Dreams and Shiny Things
Yuffie loves shiny things. Knives, shuriken, jewels, munny, even the occasional bit of fabric. If it sparkles, shimmers, glitters or gleams, she want it. She wants it like a squirrel and the last acorn on earth. Not that she does anything with her treasures she "collects" (usually from a random passerby or someone who won't miss it anyways) except stash them in her closet until Aerith complained, when she would box some stuff up and see them to Huey,Dewey, and Louie at, oh, maybe 2.5 times their actually value. Hey, a ninja's gotta eat.
She does keep a few baubles, like the first bag of munny she stole from a grouchy old man who yelled at her for trying to play catch with some pigeons and shuriken, but in her defense, she was six and it seemed like a good idea at the time. Now, none of the original munny is in there since she spent the munny on some ice cream.
It just so happens that Yuffie also has a habit of getting what she wants. Now the methods she uses aren't always legal, but as long as she doesn't get caught then everything is all right and her status of "World's Greatest Ninja" remains intact.
Well, she doesn't get everything she wants like the Keyblade or Squall's jacket, but she gets most.
Which is why her eyes light up as Sora runs up to the Radiant Garden Restoration Committee, a young man and woman following. The woman runs to catch up with the Keyblade master, while the other lags behind, hands shoved into his pockets with an "I'm so broody" look that rivals Squall and Cloud's, which is giggle inducing as a contest between the three would be funny as get out, but probably boring after five minutes.
"Yuffie, Leon!" Sora grins and Yuffie mirrors it. Glancing up, even Squall's lips are twitching upwards at the boy.
"Hey Sora. Good to see ya! Who are your friends here?" Yuffie takes a chance to really look at the girl and suppresses a little gasp. It's not the woman's warm friendly smile or sapphire blue eyes (although that helps) that really catches her eye. No, it's the way the sunlight hits her ruby hair, forming a glowing red halo about it.
"Hi. I'm Kairi." The girl steps up next to Sora and holds out her hand.
Yuffie smiles widely as she takes the other girl's hand, noting how soft her hand is. "Yuffie. World's Greatest Ninja, at your service!"
They lock eyes for a moment, though Kairi breaks contact first, shifting her attention to Squall.
Yuffie can't help how her smile widens.
The game is on.
